Overview

The Bender family continues a 50 year tradition of traveling in open air style safari vehicles north of Corolla along the ocean and sand dunes on a 2 hour, small group, excursion sharing history and ecology along the way. We stop for several photo opportunities and points of interests along the way, as well including private access to the Wild Horse Conservation Area. This tour also included a professional and knowledgeable horse guide to educate you on what you are seeing. Choose from one of 3 departure times when you book.

For now, we will allow maximum capacity ONLY for one family or group per household if staying together in the same rental house. Otherwise, the maximum will be TWELVE (12) people.

If you have more than 12 people please call us directly for accommodations.

We will NOT be able to allow any children UNDER 40 POUNDS on the tour.

We had a great guide who gave us great information about the horses and stories of growing up on the island. The ride can either be rough or fun depending on what you make of it, my fiance and I were on the back which is the bounciest and had such a blast!! A real 4wd experience and you are of course seat belted in. Our guide was really knowledgeable and went all around the area and I lost track of how many encounters we had with horses! Horses may be anywhere from the meadow this place owns, to the middle of the road, to hanging out in people's yards or in their outdoor showers underneath their beach houses! It's so magical seeing these majestic horses free to roam literally neighborhoods and fields. And the ride was another attraction in itself! We passed a lot of stumps in the sand on the beach which were leftover from a previous maritime forest. The history is beautiful! So fascinating and a great experience.

Edna was the best! So knowledgeable, and loved sharing it. The ride was a treat, and searching for the horses was exciting! Loved every minute!

We had a fantastic time with our guide, Rylee (sp?)and would highly recommend this tour. There is so much to see and learn, even if you aren’t a “horse person” it’s totally worth the money and time. Several times we did see the horses and really enjoyed Rylee’s enthusiasm and navigating us through the sand. She was so fun 😊
