Overview

The Bender family continues a 50 year tradition of traveling in open air style safari vehicles north of Corolla along the ocean and sand dunes on a 2 hour, small group, excursion sharing history and ecology along the way. We stop for several photo opportunities and points of interests along the way, as well including private access to the Wild Horse Conservation Area. This tour also included a professional and knowledgeable horse guide to educate you on what you are seeing. Choose from one of 3 departure times when you book.

For now, we will allow maximum capacity ONLY for one family or group per household if staying together in the same rental house. Otherwise, the maximum will be TWELVE (12) people.

If you have more than 12 people please call us directly for accommodations.

We will NOT be able to allow any children UNDER 40 POUNDS on the tour.

Ok there are no guarantees you will see them horses, they are wild after all access not contained. But they do their best to find them. They know all the back roads and places the horses like to frequent. They also know the history of the area so you get lots of local insights about the history. When you do see the horses they go slow to let you take pictures. They do all this to help raise awareness to help protect the roughly 160 horses left. Being that we are not from the area we greatly appreciated the insider knowledge and wisdom to find and see the horses. Had we tried to find them on our own we never would have. It was worth the price to have a tour guide and driver. If you go later in the year bundle up, it gets cold racing down the beach!

We had an awesome time on the COA horse tour. Our guide Craig was extremely knowledgeable, answered all of our questions, and created an excellent experience. We saw quite a few horses, and learned a lot about both the natural and cultural history of the area. Craig was respectful and mindful of the neighbors as we drove through the dune neighborhoods of Carova and Corolla - limiting noise, driving safely/slowly, and not lingering too long in any one location. I was also happy to learn about all the great work COA is doing to support the wild horse populations in the area, by preserving land, working with local conservation groups to monitor and study the populations, and educating the community on how to sustainably coexist with these beautiful creatures. Would definitely repeat! I can’t speak to how the COA tour compares to the others in the area, but it certainly exceeded my expectations, and appeared to be the lowest cost option.
