Overview

The Bender family continues a 50 year tradition of traveling in open air style safari vehicles north of Corolla along the ocean and sand dunes on a 2 hour, small group, excursion sharing history and ecology along the way. We stop for several photo opportunities and points of interests along the way, as well including private access to the Wild Horse Conservation Area. This tour also included a professional and knowledgeable horse guide to educate you on what you are seeing. Choose from one of 3 departure times when you book.

For now, we will allow maximum capacity ONLY for one family or group per household if staying together in the same rental house. Otherwise, the maximum will be TWELVE (12) people.

If you have more than 12 people please call us directly for accommodations.

We will NOT be able to allow any children UNDER 40 POUNDS on the tour.

Fun adventure being able to drive on the beach and see parts of the Island that most people don't. Drive was very knowledgeable (he was a local) and took extra care since our daughter in law was 5 months pregnant. We didn't get to see as many horses as I had envisioned (3 small groups). It was definitely cool to see how they just roam amongst the houses.

Our guide was great. We saw quite a few horses but we're surprised that there were houses throughout the area and this is where we saw all but one horse. I think we would have preferred a tour where you sit looking forward. Ours had bench type seating looking inward which wasn't the most comfortable ride over and around the sand dunes.

Smiley Riley was an awesome guide. We saw so many horses, I think the final count was 23 or 24! She gave us great information on the horses and the history of the area. I’ve been to OBX before but haven’t done a 4WD tour before. Definitely recommend this company!! The only thing I would change would be the way the seats are oriented. You’re facing each other on either side of a truck bed, and are belted in, so it’s hard to see things behind you, and things in front of you are half-blocked by the people across from you. If possible, swapping the bench seats around so you can sit back-to-back and see straight out over the side of the pickup bed would make photos and seeing the sights much better!!!
