2 Hour Pottery Experience (Wheel or Hand-Building)

Overview
All of our pottery experiences are one-time, two-hour sessions guided by local Santa Fe artists and geared toward travelers, newbies, and anyone looking for a fun introduction to pottery. At the end of class, students will recycle their pieces, but you need not walk away empty handed. Each student gets $15 off of a piece from our gallery, which is full of pottery handcrafted by our teachers.

In the wheel-throwing experience, students will dive into the most popular method of making ceramics. Working at the wheel is a meditative, yet challenging process. In this two-hour class, our potters will take you through the process of throwing a piece of pottery on the wheel.

In our hand-building experience, students will learn the ancient techniques of working with clay by hand through sculpting, coil-building, or slab-building. The slowness of these methods allow for deeper connection with the material and total freedom of expression through clay.

What a fantastic time at Paseo Pottery. Friendly, informative and supportive to those of us who are not quite serious potters! Try as I may to create a cup I turned out a few bowls. Oh well - it helped me appreciate the skill of those who can. Very relaxed atmosphere. Loved it! Tip - Wear clothes you don't care about getting clay on, especially your shoes. When wheel working the clay and slip go everywhere. They do provide smocks but inevitably clay goes places you don't expect. If you have long hair a tie back would be a good idea. We will be back for the hand building course!

Good advice! Sensible shoes and hair ties! It's a messy sport. Thanks for coming to play with us.

I had no real interest in pottery, but my wife wanted to do the class. I thought it would be evident to everyone that I had absolutely no creative skills. The teacher turned out to be a kindergarten teacher and made both of us feel very comfortable and provided as much or as little help as we wanted/needed. The bottom line is I was very happy with the class and the 2 projects that I made there. I will go again the next time I am near Sante Fe. Fun time.

Great intro experience. Would have been even better with one more instructor as it was hard for Claire to divide her time among 10 students. However, I would recommend as a fun exposure to throwing and left me wanting to learn more. Thanks!
