2- Hour Pottery Workshop and Studio Tour in Ojai

Overview
Ojai has a 100-year history of ceramics. Our studio, located a mile from the city center, is surrounded by nature, in the midst of a fruit orchard.

We are the primary working studio for the great artists of the Ojai Valley. Visitors may watch potters work, and may "try their hand" at a range of techniques. After making their pottery, they may may pay a small fee for one of the potters to trim, glaze and high-fire the work. They may also come back to glaze their work themselves. We can hold the work for up to 3 months for visitors who want to come back and do their own glazing, AND we will even ship the pieces anywhere in the country...

My 16-year-old daughter and I had a fabulous afternoon. The two hours flew by, but we managed to create several pieces during the time thanks to the excellent guidance and assistance of the instructors. Iā€™m amazed that we were all able to pick up the various steps and techniques so quickly since this was our first time. In the end, we got to choose the pieces to keep and they will finish, fire, glaze, and ship them to us once complete. It was a fabulous experience.

Such a fun experience! My partner and I booked the 2-hour pottery workshop on a Wednesday at 12:30 PM. Our instructor Joann, gave us a tour of the studio and the kilns before we began the pottery-making workshop. We really lucked out because the other group of people who were also scheduled during our time time slot canceled last minute! So we basically had a private, one-on-one pottery-making session! Joann is such a great teacher-so kind, patient and helpful! She helped shape and rescue the pieces we messed up on. I had long acrylic nails (at the time) and Joann showed me (using sponges) how to work the clay. Be sure to have short nails if you do this workshop! At the end of our session, we decided which pieces to keep and picked a color for the glaze. Since we were visiting, we opted to have our pieces shipped to us. We can't wait to receive them!

Just learning the way to work the wheel, and how to begin the process. Inspired me to seek a class to learn in more detail. And hopefully master some skills.
