2-hour Shelling Boat Tour in the 10,000 Islands

Overview

The 10,000 Islands Wildlife Refuge, adjacent to Everglades National Park, is inaccessible except by boat. Our tour, led by an experienced sheller and certified master naturalist will whisk you to a remote barrier island within the Refuge. While barrier islands such as Sanibel or Captiva offer great shelling, these islands rarely have a foot print on the beaches.
Not only can you experience great shelling in a remote location, you will have the opportunity to see dolphin, possibly sea turtles or manatee, and a multitude of birds such as ospreys, eagles, roseate spoonbills, pelicans and the like while cruising to your island.

While shelling, learn about the nuances of tides and currents and how it affects sea life. Your captain/guide can make your tour a family learning experience.

While barrier islands such as Sanibel or Captiva offer great shelling, these islands rarely have a foot print on the beaches. Not only can you experience great shelling in a remote location, you will have the opportunity to see dolphin, possibly sea turtles or manatee, and a multitude of birds such as ospreys, eagles, roseate spoonbills, pelicans and the like while cruising to your island. We had a wonderful time, really enjoyed the dolphin surfing, and shelling. We were very impressed with Captian Ed’s knowledge of the different types of shells. He thoughtfully found some excellent examples for us. (he also picked up trash and cans he found, I was impressed with how much he obviously cares for the area.) Captain Ed warmed up as we got into our voyage and shared a lot of knowledge of the area. He must get differing levels of interest as we asked detailed questions which he answered, but definitely not a canned speech. (We did the 4 o’clock tour and I am sure that it is difficult to be “on” all day). Not sure about about taking kids on this, (maybe this is why they asked for your birthday) as we had no safety briefing & realized later we didn’t see any life jackets.

Thanks for taking the time for your review. Yourafety is our primary concern. In the last 25 years of operation, we have not had no safety related incidents. Please know that your boat had adult and child PFDs (personal floation devices), two fire extinguishers, a first aid kit, audio & visual signal devices and a throwable recue ring. It even had a satelite tracking device. Please do come and enjoy the area again.

Amazing shells, fun boat ride. Got to see dolphins & other wildlife. Captain Ed was fun & informative. Great experience with a family of toddlers, teenagers, parents & grandparents. Thank you we will definitely do again next time we are here! Everyone is glad we did it!
