2-hour Shelling Boat Tour in the 10,000 Islands

Overview
The 10,000 Islands Wildlife Refuge, adjacent to Everglades National Park, is inaccessible except by boat. Our tour, led by an experienced sheller and certified master naturalist will whisk you to a remote barrier island within the Refuge. While barrier islands such as Sanibel or Captiva offer great shelling, these islands rarely have a foot print on the beaches.
Not only can you experience great shelling in a remote location, you will have the opportunity to see dolphin, possibly sea turtles or manatee, and a multitude of birds such as ospreys, eagles, roseate spoonbills, pelicans and the like while cruising to your island.

While shelling, learn about the nuances of tides and currents and how it affects sea life. Your captain/guide can make your tour a family learning experience.

The boat ride was pleasant but we were not given enough time to walk on the beach to look for shells. Out of the two hour tour we were only given 40 minutes to walk the beach. Our captain scolded us for getting a bit of sand on the boat so I had to get a beach towel out to clean it up. Shouldn't a little bit of sand brought on board to be expected? After all we are on a beach walking in the sand. Very disappointing. All in all, it was not worth $85 per person.

I am sorry that you were disappointed. There were other guests on board and balancing everyone's expectations can be tough. Your interest, obviously, was shelling. The others were very engaged with watching the dolphins play and interact. It is very tough to leave playful dolphins when guests are engaged. We do offer the 10,000 Island Excursion which 3.5 hours in duration versus the 2 hour tour that you booked. This tour provides MUCH more shelling time. Commonly, we have time to shell on two different islands and also see the "famous" Cape Romano Dome Homes. Also, please know that all our experiences can be booked as a private tour. A private tour is YOUR tour, so can do whatever best suits you. Of course, we expect to get sand on the boat. Normally, we simply wash the sand down with a couple of buckets of water. Unfortunately, someone had "removed" the bucket overnight (along with a couple of other items). The sand was only mentioned to keep you and the other guests from getting "sand blasted" on the ride home. Knowing our guests, I am sure that there was no "scolding".

Wonderful boat ride through the mangrove Islands to quiet beach area to shell. We saw dolphins and beautiful birds on the way to and from shelling.. Two very experienced shellers were impressed. The two novice wanted to take home every shell we found! Our guide was knowledgeable about history of the area and birds. Definitely will do again at low tide.

Thank you. The 10,000 Excursions is our best experience. The longer duration allows us to shell in a couple of locations

Great day. Capt Ed was very knowledgeable of the wildlife and went out of his way to find it. Even saw Dolphins and Manatee. Help the girls find shells during the walk and explained what they were.
