What To Expect

Shem Creek Park

Historic Shem Creek is one of the most iconic spots in Charleston and is known for its shrimp boats, seafood restaurants and wildlife. Bottlenose dolphins frequent this creek and will often breach just feet away from your kayak. In the summers, manatees call Shem Creek home and loggerhead turtles will occasionally pop above the surface. As you pass by the shrimp boats and oyster-lined marshes, you see Charleston Harbor and the Holy City Skyline. The Netflix show Outer Banks films on Shem Creek and your guide can show you familiar places where Pogues hang out!

The Harbor Cruise was fun even though is was chilly on the water and our course had to be changed(at my request) because of the wind and choppy water. The captain and his crew were professional, informative and made sure everyone was comfortable. We all enjoyed it and will do again when weather is better. We also rented their venue area for a party after the cruise. The guests had a good time and loved the views of Shem Creek but the assistance from staff was lacking for this part of my event. Set up for the party and assistance for the caterer was to be done while we were on the cruise. It was offered when plans were made and discussed again on my arrival. Unfortunately it did not happen. Some of my guests had to set up and assist caterer. Tables and chairs were to be available, most of the tables were broken and very few chairs were provided. (good thing I had arranged some rentals). Staff had to be asked several times for assistance. The pictures on their site of the venue were not at all what was provided for my party.

We had a fabulous time! Our guides were very knowledgeable and passionate regarding their work! Because of their foundation, I now only want to support organizations that support conservation, the environment, and education—-instead of a ‘just for profit’!

Our entire group so appreciated the Shem Creek Guided Kayak Tour. Our guides were experts in the ecology of this special area and shared key information during our Kayak experience. The equipment, safety instruction and preparation were outstanding for us novice sea kayakers. We enjoyed every moment, and were blessed to see a dolphin up close and personal as we ended the adventure. Thank you Tate and Clare and everyone - we recommend this experience to all who visit the area.
