What To Expect

Kaibab National Forest

You will depart Tusayan, Arizona located in the South Rim of the Grand Canyon on the safest and most comfortable-tourism based helicopter in the world. On your 45-minute helicopter flight, enjoy the luxurious comfort and wraparound windows which offer breathtaking views of the Canyon. Enjoy the fantastic views of the Canyon as you fly over the 1.6 million-acre (6,500 km²) Kaibab National Forest, which borders both the north and south rims of the Grand Canyon. The Kaibab National Forest is home to the world’s largest ponderosa pines.

Painted Desert

You will continue your journey as you follow the Colorado River upstream viewing at a distance the 146-square mile Painted Desert and the 70-foot (21-meter) Desert View Watchtower, a National Historic Landmark.

Grand Canyon Desert View Watchtower

The Desert View Watchtower features an observation deck from which visitors to the national park can view eastern portions of the Grand Canyon.

Marble Canyon

Next, view Marble Canyon, the section of the Colorado River which marks the beginning of the Grand Canyon, and Point Imperial, the highest point on the North Rim at 8,803 feet (2,683 meters). Point Imperial overlooks the Painted Desert and the eastern end of Grand Canyon. You will fly through the Canyon above the North Rim heading south through the Dragon Corridor, the widest and deepest section of the Canyon.

Colorado River

At the end of your helicopter flight, you will cross over the Colorado River and fly over the South Rim and the Kaibab National Forest to land. Please note: Per FAA regulations, all passengers 18 years and older will be required to show photo ID such as a driver's license or passport at the time of check-in.

Some places look pretty much like you see them in photos or in magazines or in a movie, but the Grand Canyon is so much more impressive when you actually see it for yourself. The Maverick helicopter tour was really good. The helicopter was nice and clean and comfortable, the pilot, Spencer, was friendly and chatted with everyone onboard. It seats 6 passengers, 2 up front with the pilot and 4 across the back but we only had 5 aboard so we had a bit more room in the back. The flight lasted about 45 to 50 minutes and we covered a lot the Canyon. The “drop off” when you fly over the edge into the Canyon is amazing! The Canyon is huge, but you fly pretty close to certain parts so you get a good look. The pilot tells you about the various places as you fly over them and it was pretty interesting to hear about it. Although it cost us $299 USD each for my wife and me we both agreed that it was worth it. If we go back to the Grand Canyon we would probably do it again.

This trip was awesome. The Maverick helicopters were excellent as there is a lot of glass so you get spectacular views of the Canyon. Our pilot BJ was also brilliant and the knowledge he had of the Canyon was spot on. We were a party of three and were fortunate to be sitting at the front of the helicopter which does give panoramic views. we did not know what to expect and you can not fully appreciate the sheer size of the Canyon and the colours are something else. I would fully recommend this trip, it is an experience you will always remember.
