45 Minute Semi-Submarine Tour of Catalina Island From Avalon

Overview
Come aboard Catalina Island's newest semi-submarine, the SS Nautilus, and enjoy a deep sea adventure 1,000 leagues beyond your imagination. The main attraction of this unique vessel allows six feet underwater viewing while staying dry so eager seafarers can get up close and face-to-face with schools of fish anticipating treats fired away from custom designed fish food torpedo buttons. Designed after America's first nuclear powered submarine, the USS Nautilus, the 45-minute journey is the destination itself as our captain and his crew ventures out on an exploratory mission to the undersea gardens of Avalon Bay.

I didn't expect to see so many fish under the water near Catalina island. It is very fun experience for adults to spend time with children under the water. .

The good: The Semi-Submarine tour of Catalina was exciting & different! Chance to be submerged in a submarine; it’s not easy to find that just anywhere. The beautiful color of the water below was quite different than what you see above. Enjoyed the beautiful kelp forest. To see the fish right at your porthole in a feeding frenzy, you need to pay to feed them. At the time, it was $6 for 4 torpedoes of food. However, you could also enjoy the experience equally if you don’t buy the food because the fish are plentiful once someone on the sub feeds them. Make sure to glance at the screen upfront from time to time. It has education on the fish that you are seeing. The could have been better: The tour guide was not very friendly. I said hello to her while boarding the sub and she said nothing back. I didn’t see her greet anyone. She looked bored during the trip & sat on the stairs at one point with her head in her hands looking ultra bored. Despite that, I thanked her while exiting the sub and again got no reply back. Didn’t get her name but she looked like a teen. You may get a better tour guide than we did. Still had a great time though! My teens were even excited.
