5 Day Cathedral Lakes to Clouds Rest & Half Dome

Overview

Kick off your Yosemite backpacking experience with one of the most iconic sections of the John Muir Trail, weaving between majestic alpine lakes to the summits of Clouds Rest and Half Dome! Camp the first night at Cathedral Lakes amid the spirit of the true high country, then hike the JMT up and over Cathedral Pass with stunning views of alpine peaks along the way. Set up camp in the Sunrise Lakes area for Night 3, and from there, tackle the Clouds Rest summit (9,926’) for one of the most spectacular views of Yosemite Valley in the park! Your adventure culminates with the summit of Half Dome (8,836’) before returning to Yosemite Valley on the Mist Trail passing two spectacular waterfalls. This trip’s strenuous itinerary is well worth it! If you’re looking for an authentic Yosemite experience, this is the adventure for you!

My son (15) and I had an awesome trip with LA. They took care of everything (equipment, great food, permits) except for the hard work of hiking 30+ miles. A wonderful way to really see Yosemite with excellent guides who make sure everyone is happy and having fun. You want to get in shape for the 5-day trip!

This was my first backpacking trip ever. I cannot say enough about out two guides Quinn and Mike, they were AWESOME! They were more concerned with making sure our group of ten achieved their own personal goals, while making the trip so much fun. They were always concerned for our safety, making sure we drank enough water and ate snacks and had the right equipment. Their knowledge and expertise was second to none. I can’t thank Lasting Adventures, Quinn and Mike for giving me the trip of a lifetime and making me believe in myself that at 58 I was able to hike Clouds Rest and get to Subdome to watch my daughter climb half dome in one day. It was a lot harder than I thought it would be but I am so proud of myself which I would not of been able to do on my own. And to complete the trip I saw a Yosemite bear. If you want to get the most out of your experience in Yosemite, you have to go with Lasting Adventures. Yosemite is an amazing, diverse, expansive park that made having expert guides and staff invaluable. We learned so much about the park, it's history, wildlife, as we experienced it. Our trip was altered slightly because of the heavy snow pack, but they made the changes seamlessly and safely. Beyond everything they did to make the trip one of a kind, was that they are all about safety and good camping practices. Shout out to Kara!! Our chef extraordinaire, picture taking, trail game playing, dad joke telling guide!
