6 Hours Private Civil Rights Tour of Montgomery

Overview
This tour will take us to some of the most important sites that defined the Civil Rights Movement in Alabama. Our journey will take us on a definitive and emotional story of the civil rights era that changed the fabric of American life and sparked a movement. From the pulpit where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. preached to the spot where Mrs. Rosa Parks refuse to give up her seat on a Montgomery City bus. Afterwards, we'll continue on to the Civil Rights Memorial center and many other sites related to the Civil Rights movement. It's been said that those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it.

National Memorial for Peace and Justice
The National Memorial for Peace and Justice was conceived with the hope of creating a sober, meaningful site where people can gather and reflect on America's history of racial inequality. Set on a six-acre site, the memorial uses sculpture, art, and design to contextualize racial terror. The national memorial is a sacred space for truth-telling and reflection about racial terror in America and its legacy.

Jake Williams loves Montgomery and its history both the the challenging, and the glorious. We were all over the city. He is both a first hand witness to some of the civil rights struggles, and a historian, and he connects things beautifully. I cannot recommend his experience highly enough.

My husband and I spent a day with Jake, the owner of the company and a “foot soldier” in the march over 50 years ago from Selma to the steps of the capital in Montgomery. Jake shared his encyclopedic knowledge of the city from the founding up until today, and I swear nothing was left out. We started with perhaps the best coffee I’ve ever had at the shop inside the Kress storefront. After learning about the slave market and seeing where the Confederacy was born and the Civil War was started, we went to Sunday service at Martin Luther Kings’ church. All of that was just the beginning. Jake was so interesting, very personable, and completely generous with his time. We could not have asked for more. Please consider seeing Montgomery with him, he will deepen your understanding of all the conflicts which got us to where we are today.
