A Day in Amish Country

Overview
Pennsylvania is home to a fascinating culture found in the rural farmlands outside of Philadelphia. Join our tour to understand the complex history and lifestyle of the Amish community and dispel the myths of a much misunderstood people.

Your tour starts with a ride in our comfortable van out to the idyllic countryside of Lancaster County, where you’ll hear about the beginnings of Amish culture in the United States and see farmers hard at work in their fields.

Your local guide will fully immerse you in the way of life here with a visit to an 1800s farmhouse, and your included admission to the Amish Village Museum will give you a deeper appreciation for the traditions and philosophies of the Amish communities.

We’ll have time for stops in small towns highlighting Amish-made goods, including quilt shops, bakeries, and road-side stands. Best yet, you’ll have the chance to support the community with your food purchases, with unique options recommended by your guide!

My favorite part was the great food we ate. I loved the lunch spot we went to. I also enjoyed the pretzels and milkshakes that we had towards the end of our trip.

Getting out to Lancaster from Philadelphia is not super easy without a car, so I was thrilled to find this tour offered by WeVenture. You can just book online and then get picked up on the day of the tour (6 days a week) right from a Center City location, do a fully-guided day tour in Lancaster, and return back to Center City in time for dinner! The van was very comfortable and our driver/guide Adam was a blast - telling us stories and answering our avalanche of questions all the way to the Amish Village and back. The Amish way of life is fascinating, and the tour goes deep into that, but another major highlight for me was all the delicious foods we got to sample along the way, stopping at a number of street-side markets. The soft pretzel and raspberry milkshake combo from the Countryside Roadstand is now my favorite new food group.

Absolutely recommend the “A Day in Amish Country” tour! First, the guide (Adam) was amazing – friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. I walked away with not only a new perspective on the Amish community but learned so much about the greater Philadelphia region. The tour takes you through the beautiful countryside, Amish communities, local stores for one-of-a-kind finds, and delicious hidden gems. While there is a set of “must sees” the tour takes you through, the guide without hesitation added stops that we found interesting and curated the tour to our interests as we went on.
