Ross was our guide and we couldnā€™t have asked for better. He was knowledgeable, funny and kind. I had asked Ross a question that he didā€™t know the answer to and he texted me afterwards to give me an answer!!! The description says the tour goes up to the observatory so I left my husband to continue on without me. Ross directed me to wait at a specific location and meet up with the tour a bit before the end. So thoughtful. What you should know is they have cut the climb up the hill to the observatory out of the tour so I probably could have done it all. We were lucky enough to have a surprise add on. As we approached the Custom House, someone from inside asked Ross if he wanted to bring us in. Such a treat that very few get to enjoy. Highly recommend. Do NOT let the description of climbing the long steep hill to the observatory scare you, itā€™s an old description.

We took four different tours while in Portland, and this was my favorite because it was so eclectic. Our guide (I can't recall his name, but he was a retired lawyer) brought in a wide variety of information. There was history, significant buildings, hidden gems for food and/or drink, plus a treat from the Standard Baking Co. at the end.

An incredible way to learn the history of Portland , walking along the wharf and old part of Portland was super interesting , visiting the inside of the custom house was a special .. recommendations of restaurants by our guide Ross was helpful .. the walk ended with Ross treating us to a cookie- appreciated this gesture .. being a very hot day was sort of tiring at the end .. but still enjoyed it
