We chose the history tour, but approximately one fourth of the time was spent discussing restaurants and bar recommendations.

Wow! Only 3 stars. We are sorry you were disappointed. Often the tour guides follow the interests of the group, so we suspect there were some questions, as there usually are, about the award winning culinary scene. It's hard to leave out given Portland's roots in food for over 150 years. Beginning with the molasses from the West Indies, Portland became a notable supplier of refined sugar, through the J. B. Brown sugar refinery on the waterfront, and of course, rum was also distilled here in town in legal and "semi legal" enterprises. Then in 1853, with the completion of the railroad linked to Montreal, Portland transported Canadian winter wheat grains to distribute in the northeast... It's easy to continue to present day with all the award winning restaurants and multicultural food scene. All this being said, we always do our best to offer a well-balanced tour offering maritime, social, military history along with culture, architecture, and more. There is actually too much to cover in just 2 hours, so the interests of the group are often taken into account. We apologize, again that your tour was not to your preferences. We hope you still enjoyed the sights, scenery and education imparted, and we thank you for spending 2 hours with us.
