Overview

How to get to Denali National Park? There’s no finer way to arrive than aboard Alaska Railroad’s flagship train, the Denali Star. Passengers especially appreciate the panoramic views, as on a clear day the route offers incredible views of the train’s namesake peak: Denali, the tallest mountain in North America. We recommend that passengers made advance reservations for accommodations at the Park, as it is not possible to get to and from Denali from Anchorage by rail in the same day. A return rail journey from Denali to Anchorage may be booked separately for a subsequent day.

As part of our Alaska Tourist Dept. package, we took the 8-hour rail trip from Anchorage to Denali. Boarding at Anchorage rail depot was smooth, and the views from the domed compartment were super. We were escorted down to the dining car for breakfast and lunch, and also got 2 drink vouchers for alcoholic beverages, other drinks and snacks were on the house. Overall, a splendid experience, culminating in being dropped in our hotel at Denali with baggage delivered to the room.

We were transported from the Anchorage Marriott Downtown to the Anchorage Depot. Once on board of the train we were seated in a doomed rail car and had great views of the landscape. We were served breakfast in the dining car and sat with a charming couple from Ontario, Canada. the breakfast was very good and you definitely don't walk away hungry. During our 3+ hour train ride we saw eagle flying and beautiful scenery. This was a wonderful experience. I'd love to do it again!

Either of there service levels is good but the Gold is a great experience. Seats are great in the viewing car and ok to go outside. Meals are very good.
