Took the train from Anchorage to Denali was very relaxing. The tour guide on board was very knowledgeable about the history of the area. The scenery was amazing. The entire staff on board the train was very friendly and helpful. The food was good and reasonably priced. I would definitely do this again if I was in the area.

Travelling through Alaska, I didn't have the time or money to stop in Denali, so took the train as a way of seeing the landscape whilst still travelling. The journey time from Anchorage to Fairbanks is 12 hours, so we decided to travel in Gold Star class for more comfort (this is the railroad's equivalent of first class). Big mistake! Whilst the furnishings are a little nicer and you get meals included there is much less seating space than in standard Adventurer class. Within 5 minutes we knew we had to move and complained to the train manager onboard. The staff were very good and moved us back to Adventurer class (which is very comfortable and spacious) and arranged for us to have the difference refunded. We were also given free meals for the journey. The service itself is excellent, slowing down for scenery and wildlife, which is all announced via the onboard PA system. Efficient and friendly staff and tasty meals make it a great and relaxing way to travel.

Did three trips with Alaksa rail, one Anchorage to Denali, then another back a couple of days later and then another from Anchorage to Seward. Scenery is generally ok going to and from Denali but because the train goes so slow there are some parts that area bit boring. Staff were excellent and the food was also great ( gold Star). Seats were ok and the viewing car was good. They also keep you looking for wildlife but really you would have to be lucky to see much, its mainly trees. The trip from Anchorage to Seward I thought was better scenery, stunning in places and won't take as long. The only negative I had was the way our luggage is treated, it sits out in the rain for far too long before anyone can be bothered to load it, they could at least cover it up, other than that it was great.
