Alcatraz Inside and Golden Gate Bridge Express Visit

Overview

Enjoy two same day San Francisco experiences — a round trip express excursion to the Golden Gate Bridge (SF side) by minibus from Fisherman’s Wharf with an assigned time visit inside Alcatraz cellhouse.

Basic Tour departs Fisherman's Wharf to experience 45 minutes at the Golden Gate Bridge (SF side). There is also an option to upgrade in advance to visit the other side of the bridge in addition to San Francisco side or to choose a small group van experience. No food included.

Guests can upgrade to the "Walk The Bridge with Brunch" option where we drop guests at the other side of the bridge to which guests have TWO HOURS to walk back to the San Francisco side. Their efforts are rewarded with a $10 brunch credit and pick up at the Bridge Restaurant.

Light History Narration and Television Monitor Documentaries will be provided.
Guests will be dropped off directly at Pier 33 Alcatraz or Wharf.
Some dates may start with Alcatraz followed by Golden Gate Bridge.

What To Expect

Alcatraz Island

Step back in time and experience the legendary island that has been a civil war fort, a military prison and one of the most notorious federal penitentiaries in US history. This memorable tour includes: 45 minute audio presentation "Doing Time: The Alcatraz Cellhouse Tour," featuring actual correctional officers and prisoners who lived and worked on the Island; orientation video by Discovery Channel; ranger and docent tours; historic gardens and abundant wildlife.

Golden Gate Bridge

Round trip transportation from Fisherman's Wharf across the Golden Gate Bridge (one half hour each way) with a 30 minute stop over for pictures on the other side at Vista Point. Return to Fisherman's Wharf. Total van event is estimated 90 minutes* (allow for traffic/accidents/delays)

The trip overall was amazing But James is the person I have ever met. He was our tour guide and went out his way to make us feel great. He really made my San Francisco trip all worth it. You won’t find better customer service anywhere you go. All those bigger company’s have nothing on him. He even dropped us at our hotel which was just out of his kindness. James we appreciate you!

Families deserve a better level of service in San Francisco. These larger companies are all about tick tock on the clock to turn these tours out that they lose the customer service charm. With a mixed bag weather day, we were taken first to the Golden Gate Bridge by van, during which time we viewed a great informational video on the history of the bridge. We were dropped off right at the GGB entrance on the SF side, and chose to walk halfway across. Despite the fog we had some nice views and got a few good pics. The same van returned us to the Pier area about an hour later, and because it was only our family he dropped us off exactly where we wanted to go, which was Pier 39 for lunch. We only had about 40 minutes to eat and get to our boat at Pier 33 (about a 15 minute walk), but made it in time. The ferry to Alcatraz takes about 15 minutes and is an easy crossing. Lots of great views up top. Upon arriving at Alcatraz a gentleman was outside the facility informing guests as to what they could do on the island, and answering questions. We were very happy to have gotten the audio tour of the cell block as part of this package, but when to start the recording is confusing. Bottom line, the staff while tell you, so don't worry and start it too soon. And it is a great presentation - lots of great info, stories and drama. Other than that, you are free to walk most of the island, and there are actually some pretty gardens that are a nice break from all that concrete and steel. Negatives are the hills, which all steep, and the overwhelming smell of bird droppings. You can return to town on any ferry you choose, and they leave every hour. There are rest rooms and a nice gift shop. There is a tram for people with mobility issues, but prepare yourself for an uphill hike. The only other issue we had was not knowing when we were scheduled to do this combo tour until the day before, which did not allow us to plan any other activities for the day. It worked out fine in the end, but that would have been more helpful. Overall this was a great, no fuss or frills package deal.
