Alcatraz Island at Night with Fisherman's Wharf Walking Tour

Overview
At the end of the day in the bustling city of San Francisco, the daily crowds begin to dissipate. The sun sinks into the Pacific Ocean and shadows fall over the city streets, as waves push rhythmically against the piers. This is your chance. Your chance to experience the faltered prison of Alcatraz after nightfall - when all the other tourists have gone home, and you have the island all to yourself with only a limited amount of other chosen few. This experience is paired with an in-depth exploration of nearby Fisherman’s Wharf and a visit to the famed Boudin Bakery, where San Francisco’s sourdough bread always rises to the occasion.

What To Expect
1
Ghirardelli Square
Visit Ghirardelli Square to sample delectable chocolate, an iconic treat of San Francisco. Wander through the old factory grounds, where in 1849 Domenico Ghirardelli brought his confectionery to the shores of San Francisco.
2
San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park
Go to a “behind the scenes” vantage point over Aquatic Park where brave swimmers jet through the cold bay waters preparing for the annual Escape from Alcatraz race. Glance at the island of Alcatraz from this vantage point and mentally prepare for your evening secluded on the notorious island.
3
Fisherman's Wharf
At the waterfront begin your walk towards the heart of Fisherman’s Wharf, passing the iconic Powell-Hyde Cable Car turnaround. Detour to a famed restaurant perched at the end of a wharf, and access a locals-only door to enter the crab stands lining the heart of the Wharf where the iconic mast sign welcomes your arrival.
4
Boudin at the Wharf
Step inside the Boudin Bakery where sourdough bread rises to the occasion. Visit the small museum where, over samples of sourdough bread, your guide will share the history of the longest-running establishment in San Francisco.
5
Pier 39
Get up close and personal with San Francisco’s unofficial mascot - the lazy sunbathers of San Francisco Bay, the permanent squatters along Pier 39, the San Francisco Sea Lions! Head down Pier 39 and take the lesser-beaten path (our own little secret) to view the famed sea lions as they lounge.
6
Alcatraz Island
As the sun begins to descend into the Pacific Ocean board your ferry to the “Inescapable Island”. After circling the island, you will enjoy the wildly popular attraction with very few - as tickets are extremely limited and sought-after.

The overall experience was fantastic, the Alcatraz portion was a unique experience and certainly one We’ll be doing again. The walking tour around Fisherman’s Wharf was also surprisingly great, the tour guide Marie was very informative and made our first day/time in San Francisco one to remember!

I’m sorry to say this but this tour was very disappointing. I’m not going to go on and on but it was not described properly. It was not a food tasting tour. We did not go to the sourdough bakery Boudin or Ghirardelli’s. It was advertised that this was part of the tour. We were told the tour ended at 7:30 which was incorrect. When we got to Alcatraz at 6:00 pm the ferry operator told us there were only two more ferries for the evening. One at 8:40 pm and one at 9:30 pm- what? We hadn’t eaten and there is no food or drinks allowed on the island. We were not prepared to be stuck on the island for almost 3 hours so we turned around and left- what a disappointment.

Dear Elizabeth, Thanks for your review. We are very sorry the tour did not meet your expectations. This tour is not a food tasting tour and it is not advertised as if it was on our website. The tour is a total of 4 hours duration. You must visit Boudin San Francisco Sourdough Bakery and Ghirardelli Square. We have many guests that provided us a 5 stars review for this tour and it is disappointing to know it was not 5 stars for you. If you have any comments you would like to address with me, please feel free to contact me at [email protected] at any time. Again, we are sorry you were not satisfied with this tour and hope you still enjoyed your Holiday despite this situation. Warmest regards, Jhonas.

Complete shambles. Was told to meet at 330 Larkin St, wasn’t certain on this as it was a mile or two away from where we were doing the WALKING tour, but called Viator and they confirmed this. We tried to call the tour operator to see why they weren’t at the meet address but they’re phone lines aren’t open on weekends but they still run tours on these days, - why that is I really don’t know. Completely useless and no such tour was ever given due to a complete screw up - or scam - from the tour providers. Avoid at all costs.

Dear Jayne_A, Thank you for reaching out to us. We value our guests' direct experience as the best way to monitor our services, and are always grateful for their comments, both positive and negative. First of all, we'd like to to apologise for making you feel let down, as that was definitely not our intention. While we do indeed meet on Larkin Street, the number is 3030 not 330, and are surprised to hear Viator gave you the wrong address. We will reach out immediately to make sure it does not happen again. Could there have been perhaps a misunderstanding due to bad reception? 330 and 3030 are very similar, so with bad signal they could be easily confused. However, the directions and address are clearly printed in our confirmation email and on the tour booking page, did you not have access to that? Finally, our company is fully operational all year round, (including weekends and national holidays) and our call centre is always there to answer questions. You might be placed on hold if very busy, but they do answer. May I ask you what number you called? Again we are terribly sorry this happened to you, if you would like to discuss this further please feel free to contact us directly at [email protected] and we will be happy to assist you. Looking forward to hearing form you. Sincerely,
