What To Expect

Alcatraz Island

Once you take the ferry over to Alcatraz Island and you are dropped off, you will make your way up to the main prison building, where you receive an audio headset, and the audio tour will guide you through the Alcatraz Prison. Once the audio tour is over, you can continue taking pictures and exploring the Island, or you can walk back down to the ferry landing and hop on the next ferry headed back to San Francisco. The Alcatraz tour typically takes 2-3 hours to enjoy.

We purchased the combo bus tour and Alcatraz visit package. The Alcatraz ferry and tour was organized, timely, and well done. The bus (Big Bus) was less so, with long cue lines to get on buses and buses leaving unfilled. Our pacakage also said we had a TWO DAY bus pass (I have a screen shot of the package description) but upon checking in were told is was a ONE day only and of course no one had any authority or could help me figure out the issue.

Wow, what an experience! I had a 24 hour international flight delay, and really wanted to make the most of my first time in San Francisco.
