My favorite part was EVERYTHING!!!! I got to grind several times, steer for a couple, and just being on an America's Cup (actually competed) boat was a real treat. The crew was super nice and accommodating. While it may be just another day on the water for them they made sure our experience was the best it could be!
We motored from the dock towards the cruise ship terminal while we prepared and raised the jib and main. Once the sails were up the motor went off! We tacked our way out the Bay around Alcatraz and beneath the Golden Gate Bridge. After continuing out for a little bit we gybed and did a downwind run across Fisherman's Pier before turning back upwind at the Cruise Ship terminal to drop sails and restart the motor. It was truly a sailing experience and NOT a motor-sailing party barge.
Be sure to follow their advice on dressing in layers as it is definitely cooler out on the water. Also don't forget the hat, sunglasses, and camera!
I would definitely recommend this experience for sailing enthusiast and even for those who just want to come along for the ride and get a great view of the Bay, San Francisco, Alcatraz, the Golden Gate Bridge, and the surroundings!
