American Adventure: Uptown Bike Tour in New Orleans

Overview
When Louisiana was purchased by the United States in 1803 the dynamics of the city began to shift. Trace the journey of American settlement in a foreign French Creole world. As we journey into the Uptown American Sector, we stop to learn about the uptown innovators who created Jazz at the Rampart-Perdido Corridor.

From there you're off to learn about the Garden Districts evolution from a sugar plantation through its development after the Louisiana Purchase into the extravagant faubourg that you see today. Trees that grow Mardi Gras beads, American history, antebellum mansions, Lafayette Cemetery #1, and a charm that only our city can bestow on its visitors.

Join us on this urban adventure through one of the most majestic neighborhoods in New Orleans!

We loved this tour of the Garden District with Eric! As a native of New Orleans from a Creole family, Eric was full of historical facts about his city, which he shared with us along the way. Although the tour was three hours, it wasn't all riding. There's so much to see and learn about the history of NOLA that we would ride for a little and then stop to hear Eric talk about a particular building or area. We started our tour, close to the bike shop, with a ride to Congo Square. Eric told us the rich history of the square; the gathering of slaves and freemen to dance and play the drums. Then we made our way to the Garden District, with a few stops along the way for history lessons. We really enjoyed Eric's stories about the history of jazz and why it's called "jazz", Buddy Bolden, Louis Armstrong, and the neighborhood where it all started. The Garden District is beautiful and Eric talked about the civil war histories of several of the homes, we learned why the cemeteries are above ground and how they bury their dead and we saw a few celebrity homes. I could go on and on but I recommend that you take the tour and see and hear for yourself!

Mike was an awesome guide - full of interesting information about New Orleans that made this tour so much fun! He tailored our tour to what we wanted to do since we had already done the French Quarter tour.

We showed for our tour as the rain started. We 1/2 expected the tour would be canceled, but Eric was game if we were... As we readied, the rain got worse and we admitted to Eric (the owner) that we we’re that jazzed about the tour in the rain. Turns our, he might not have been either :-) He quickly told us we’ve be welcome back the next day and we agreed. Laura was our guide the next day, she, too, was awesome. We really had a nice time (in beautiful weather...) riding around the garden district, checking out the park and a cemetery. Really nice use of time and got a little exercise in the process. Eric was friendly, knowledgeable and just cool overall.
