The aurora borealis is one of the most amazing natural wonders this world has to offer. Ā Join us on a quest to view and photograph the northern lights in and around the Anchorage area. Ā We will use our luxury tour vehicle as a base camp as well as a state of the art portable winter shelter complete with heater, chairs, hot drinks and snacks. Ā We use modern technology to forecast both the space and earth weather each night.Ā  The tour only operates on nights that have a reasonable expectation for the lights to be visible.Ā  While we cannot guarantee you will see the aurora, if we do operate the tour we have over a 90% success rate of seeing the northern lights. You only pay if we operate the tour.Ā  This tour is designed for anyone who has viewing the northern lights on their bucket list including both sightseers and serious photographers.Ā  Aurora photography instruction as well as Aurora portraits are provided.Ā  Tours generally depart at 9 pm and return at 3 am.

This was the most amazing experience! Dana really knows her stuff and provided a great experience. This tour is with experts who know the area, the Aurora behavior and they are phenomenal photographers! It was cold (wear double socks and bring extra hot hands warmers for your gloves and socks!) but tolerable and worth it! The guides understand the science behind the auroras and, if you stick it through, after snacks and naps the light show will leave you speechless! Thank you Dana for an incredible experience!

Best tour ever! So much prep and assurance by Steve & Chris (the amazing guide who brought us) and the result was an amazing aurora show! The technology they used to ensure the best experience possible. Tip: give them the range of days you’ll be in Anchorage and they will find the best night to bring you out for the tour - because they are so good at reading the forecast, you are in good hands! We went on Mar 8, it was a spectacular burst of show! Thank You Greatland! āļøāļøāļøāļø

Tim is a very good guide and teacher, under his guidance I got great shots of the aurora and learned to spot them on my own! No worries if you don’t have heavy coats to stay in the outside all the time, it’s ok to stay in the van cause the brilliant guide will never let you miss the aurora! However, as many have said, the aurora is not as dramatic to the naked eye as it is to the camera, so it is more recommended for those who want to take pictures and share them!

Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We're thrilled to hear that Tim was able to help you capture such amazing aurora shots and teach you how to spot them on your own. It's great that you felt comfortable with the option to stay in the van, and we're happy to know Tim’s guidance ensured you didn’t miss out on the aurora! You’re absolutely right—while the aurora may not appear as dramatic to the naked eye, it can be absolutely magical through the lens, especially for those wanting to capture the experience. We hope to welcome you on another Greatland Adventures tour soon!
