Arches National Park 4x4 Adventure from Moab

Overview
Hop into a Toyota Land Cruiser with your expert guide and head north from Moab to the backcountry entrance of Arches National Park and avoid the crowds.

Our first stop is to see dinosaur footprints. For millions of years this area was teeming with dinosaurs.

We pass Balanced Rock, one of the most iconic features of the Park, standing a staggering 128 feet. Landscape look familiar? Indiana Jones, and Thelma and Louise have scenes shot here.

The 4X4 trail into the backcounty climbs a short but steep rock wall passing sandstone fins, towering pinnacles and tall spires known as the Marching Men. We stop at Tower Arch for an optional hike.

As you travel along the track, hear informative commentary about the geology, wildlife and history of the park.

We make another stop at Eye of the Whale for an optional hike to a seldom visited slick rock playground named Herdina Park.

After exploring the backcountry we exit past the three gossips and Park Avenue before your guide returns you to Moab.

Arches National Park
Visit Arches National Park on a 4-wheel drive (4WD) tour that features spectacular sandstone arches and access to areas that most visitors don't see. An expert guide will maneuver your 4WD past red rock highlights such as Marching Men, Tower Arch and Eye of the Whale. Experience these monuments and more up close and learn about the parkā€™s wildlife and history.
2
Mill Canyon Dinosaur Trail
This 5-hour tour even includes a stop to see fossilized dinosaur tracks, left behind millions of years ago when dinosaurs roamed the region.
3
Tower Arch
An optional hike to the awe-inspiring Tower Arch begins at the foot of the bluff, where the 4WD road ends. From here, the route is rocky and steep, though short. Tower Arch itself is very large with a 92-foot span and can be viewed from the trailhead for those opting out.

TL;DR - Worth every penny, knowledgable tour guides, adventurous 4x4 offroading in Land Cruisers, see 90% of the park in 5 hours and arches you can't get to with your own car. HEADS UP: Take motion sickness pills if you are prone to getting sick (we had a few in our group who tend to sick, but they were fine on this trip fortunately) We had our first day in Moab free and didn't know what to do with it. Saw all of the positive reviews here of the Navtec 4x4 expedition, so thought we'd give it a try. WE'RE SO GLAD WE DID! Chose the half-day tour starting at 1pm after calling ahead of time. They recommended the afternoon this time of year due to the amount of sun before sunset, temperature, etc. Suggest you do the same in order to go at the best time of day. We had a group of 6. The Land Cruisers fit 4 guests + the tour guide, so groups with multiples of 4 are ideal. There wasn't anyone else booked at our time, which meant we took two vehicles in groups of 3. Essentially, we lucked out and got a private tour. :) Tony and Tyler were our guides and they were fantastic. Very knowledgeable about the area and were able to voice over everything you'd want to know while driving around the outback. They also take into account your group's preferences to optimize your time (they said were a relatively more active group, so they adjusted the trip accordingly). We felt very safe driving around. The roads get GNARLY with steep inclines and jostling but they handled the twist, turns, and rocks like true professionals. You definitely can't do a lot of the back "roads" (I say "roads" because they are washed out riverbeds that double as your 4x4's path) on your own unless you are extremely experienced. Take motion sickness pills if anyone in your group tends to get motion sickness. You get tossed around a bit, but it's all part of this awesome experience. Don't forget to bring cash to tip, not everyone has Venmo. They took us to Eye of the Whale and Tower Arch. We got out for a few small hikes, sauntering our way up to these magestic works of nature. We hardly saw anyone else out there -- getting off of the roads and away from the crowds makes you feel like you have the desert all to yourself. After the outback, they take you all the way through the "main" portion of the park so you can see what the crowds see. They also recommended how we should use the rest of our time in Moab, which was very helpful. I can't recommend this trip enough if you have a moderate sense of adventure and want to efficiently see what Arches has to offer. Definitely will use Navtec again.

Being the first visit to Moab we wanted to see as much of the Arches National Park as we could. The straightforward approach would utilize the main roads and put us in the middle of the tourist crowds. By taking the 4x4 approach we were off road almost the entire trip. The sights were terrific, even breathtaking. The skill of the driver, navigating steep pathways, littered with boulders was part of the excitement itself. We traveled over areas we thought were or would be impassible. The scenery from different angles perspectives was amazing. The guide was an experienced driver with a deep knowledge of the area, its history and its origin. You do spend most of the time in a land cruiser, stopping only for pictures and brief walks/hikes to the more remote rock formations. A great way to get a broad look at everything to let you then decide where you would like to spend more time on another visit or the next day. Truly memorable.

We really enjoyed our trip with Tony as our guide. His knowledge of geology and history of the area was great. Would highly recommend this adventure!
