Arches National Park 4x4 Adventure from Moab

Overview
Hop into a Toyota Land Cruiser with your expert guide and head north from Moab to the backcountry entrance of Arches National Park and avoid the crowds.

Our first stop is to see dinosaur footprints. For millions of years this area was teeming with dinosaurs.

We pass Balanced Rock, one of the most iconic features of the Park, standing a staggering 128 feet. Landscape look familiar? Indiana Jones, and Thelma and Louise have scenes shot here.

The 4X4 trail into the backcounty climbs a short but steep rock wall passing sandstone fins, towering pinnacles and tall spires known as the Marching Men. We stop at Tower Arch for an optional hike.

As you travel along the track, hear informative commentary about the geology, wildlife and history of the park.

We make another stop at Eye of the Whale for an optional hike to a seldom visited slick rock playground named Herdina Park.

After exploring the backcountry we exit past the three gossips and Park Avenue before your guide returns you to Moab.

Arches National Park

An expert guide will maneuver your 4WD past red rock highlights such as Marching Men, Tower Arch and Eye of the Whale. Experience these monuments and more up close and learn about the parkā€™s wildlife and history.
2
Mill Canyon Dinosaur Trail
This 5-hour tour even includes a stop to see fossilized dinosaur tracks, left behind millions of years ago when dinosaurs roamed the region.
3
Tower Arch
An optional hike to the awe-inspiring Tower Arch begins at the foot of the bluff, where the 4WD road ends. From here, the route is rocky and steep, though short. Tower Arch itself is very large with a 92-foot span and can be viewed from the trailhead for those opting out.

Booked a sunset tour of Arches National Park for five people: my 73-year-old mother-in-law (grandma), wife, me, and our two girls (11, 12). Booking was easy, check in was painless, and the front desk staff was so nice. The Land Cruiser felt more than capable and safe. As comfortable as youā€™re going to get while riding over tough, technical trails/rocks. The tour was amazing! The park is beyond gorgeous. We saw parts of it very few ever see. Bring water bottles and they can refill while on the trails. MC, our guide and driver, was an absolute rock star! Because of him, we have a lifetime of wonderful memories. Totally worth the $$. Now, more about our awesome guide... MC was friendly and we hit it off from the very beginning. He asked some great questions to better understand our expectations for the tour, where weā€™re from, what else weā€™re doing in Moab, etc. Throughout the tour he shared his deep knowledge of the park - the geologic history/science, the plant species, how and when the park was created, the important role a local doctor played, etc. He encouraged questions. Based on his long experience in outdoor rec, he knew a great deal about the entire Colorado Plateau. On the trails, he was safety conscious and gave helpful advice on routes and techniques for the terrain. He was also super great with grandma and the kids. He helped the kids feel confident and made sure grandma had what she needed/was comfortable. He knew A LOT about the trails, arch formations, park features, surrounding mountain ranges, geography, etc. MC also gave us a ton of excellent recommendations for the rest of our vacation. He helped us prioritize our remaining time for Arches and Canyonlands. When we told him we planned to drive to Santa Fe after our time in Moab, he recommended going through Ouray, CO. Wow! Without this pro tip we would have missed the gorgeous, breathtaking scenic route through Colorado via Ouray and the Million Dollar Road. Bottom line, MC made the tour, and our time in Arches/Moab, a truly amazing and wonderful experience! NavTec is lucky to have him and weā€™ll always be grateful MC was our guide. A huge thank you to him and NavTec.

As we were driving through Moab and staying for just a day we decided to do the full day Arches/Canyonlands tour in order to get a sense of the parks. Taking the tour allowed us to experience the backcountry - areas we would not otherwise have had access to. It also allowed us to avoid tour buses and crowds that accompany them! Our guide, Buzz, was extremely knowledgeable about geologic aspects of the park; he was also a great storyteller! The River was bucolic, lunch was tasty, the narrative was entertaining and informativeā€” a memorable experience!

The trip was great, but the roads are really bumpy. If you get carsick at all, this is NOT the trip for you. We have a big family so we were split up into two different vehicles (toured with Yancy and John). Yancy was fantastic, my kids loved him! John was impatient with the kids, so I found it hard to relax. The tour guides were super knowledgeable and had snacks and drinks for everyone, so that was a treat! Beautiful scenery! We would recommend this adventure...
