This is a very interesting tour. Ricky, our guide, was very knowledgeable about the route and he explained a lot of things while on the road. However, his microphone broke down midway so since we were sitting at the back of the van, we could barely hear him. We felt safe and secure driving on the deserted road. We saw some light aurora activity on our way back to Fairbanks so that was also good. On the way back we took in a couple who was saved by a truck as their rental car was stranded in the snow. We had enough stops for food/coffee/toilet which made the trip feel less long. It would be better if we were able to hear Rickly the entire time.

I had one thing on my bucket list...ONE...and that was to see The Northern Lights. So, my husband and I planned a trip to Alaska, booked The Arctic Circle and Northern Lights Tour and hoped and prayed that The Aurora would come out that night. Bill was our driver and he was AMAZING! He had lots of great stories and knowledge of everywhere that we went. After the Arctic Circle, he went right into “Northern Lights Hunter” mode. We were able to see a giant haze in the sky, which was the Northern Lights. We couldn’t see any colors in it but a camera was able to capture it. He let us all stand there and enjoy the sight, even if it was just a haze to the naked eye. As we began our trek back to the hotel, he stopped anytime the Aurora got a little brighter up in the sky. By 2:30am, The Northern Lights really lit up the entire sky! From one end to the other!! Bill was just as excited as we were to see them! He never once gave us the impression that he was bored. You’d think after awhile, a tour bus driver might kinda be like “Here it is, hurry up let’s go, seen ‘em a million times...” No, he was actually just as excited as we were! At one point, he even laid down right on the snow to watch the Northern Lights display in the sky! He made the trip more fun just by having fun with all of us! Even if we hadn’t been lucky enough to see The Aurora, we still would’ve looked back on this trip with fond memories and have been so thankful to have a wonderful person driving us all over Northern Alaska. The only tip I would give to anyone wanting to go on this trip in winter time is to bring your own ice scraper. The windows do ice over inside inside the van, and Bill provided an ice scraper, but then you have to share it. If you bring your own, you can scrape your windows as much as you want without having to ask someone to pass you the scraper. This trip is well worth the money and if I were you, I’d ask for Bill!! :)

Hello from North Pole, thank you for taking the time to leave us such an amazing review. Bill even talked about this trip days later and showed us his pictures. He just loves what he is doing and can never get enough of Alaska and it's beauty, like all of our amazing tour guides. Thank you for the tip with the ice scraper and we will make sure to add enough for everyone for the cold time of the year. Greetings from Alaska

I learned more about Alaska on this tour than I have in my 3 weeks that I've spent here thanks to my tour guide, Ricky. He has lived here for 12 years and provided us with a host of travel tips, restaurants, and local favorites. If you're here for hunting, he is the tour guide you want. Ricky didn't make you feel uncomfortable if you asked to modify the heater/AC which is convenient on a 12-15 hour hour car ride. He makes it clear that he will stop anytime you need to use the restroom and to speak up if you see anything along the way you want to stop at to explore. He's flexible and his positive attitude is contagious! We really valued how safe of a driver he was especially since we are from the south and have little experience in icy, winter driving. We didn't get a chance to see the Aurora, but I honestly cannot say he didn't try his hardest for us. He drove us around for hours after looking for clearer skies, higher tops, and patiently waited everything out. We felt like old friends by the end of the trip. My only regret with this tour is that I didn't do it first thing when I came to Alaska because it definitely would have better aided me in planning out other adventures here. Be sure to ask about Yukon Jeremy, The Old Man, and he's too humble to bring it up on his own, but if you're into military history, he's got a lifetime full of experiences to share (if he permits of course)....you've probably already seen a movie or two about it...Just don't bring up Josh Hartnett! LOL! Memorable experience!

Ricky is definitely a guide by heart and loves what he is doing and can't get enough of it. All of our guides are like that and they have so much fun driving their tours.
