We begin our 14-hour long journey to the Arctic Circle with a convenient pick up at any hotel or address inside the city limits of Fairbanks or North Pole. Settle into your seat and relax on the 200 mile (322 km) journey down the back roads of Interior Alaska. We provide free snacks and drinks to ensure your utmost comfort in our climate-controlled vans.   Take a trip back in time as you travel down the Dalton Highway. Featured on the TV show Ice Road Truckers, the Dalton Highway (technically Alaska Route 11) runs north-south through Alaska, nearly all the way to the Arctic Ocean, and parallels the Trans-Alaska Pipeline. It’s one of the most isolated roads in the United States and provides some beautiful Alaskan scenery for you to enjoy during the ride. With sweeping views of mountains and valleys, you will see the Trans-Alaskan Pipeline System (TAPS), one of the largest pipeline systems, transporting thousands of gallons of oil from Prudhoe Bay to Valdez, up close.

Van was cramped with high step to enter. I had to pull myself up just to get to the bottom step. Driver had no mic and never introduced himself. Arctic Circle was OK. Northern lights were not. Driver had just passed a lookout when he saw the lights. He said he'd drive and pull over at the next place. He drove for 25 minutes instead of going back to the stop we'd just left. By the time we got out of the van the lights had started to fade and where he pulled off had a lot of trucks with red lights on, which made the snow look red. Photos with red snow were awful. Later he pulled over to point to the sky and say the Northern lights were over there. He was pointing to clouds!

Elizabeth, we are sorry to hear that you thought that your experience on this tour warranted a 1 star review. Our fleet consists of Ford Transit 350 vans which are taller than normal vans. Generally there is a small step stool that is available to aid in people entering and exiting our vans due to the fact that they do sit a bit higher than normal vans. I am sorry if this was not utilized for you during the tour as we try to make this routine. The Ford Transit 350s are rated to carry 10 people, for us this is 9 guests and 1 guide. Due to the winter gear that most people wear for this trip, the accommodations can be a tad tight. Your guide that night is one of our most experienced guides on the Northern Light and Arctic Circle tour. He was at one point a trucker who drove the Dalton Highway regularly. Knowing this we trust him to make the necessary decisions to ensure our guests make it back to Fairbanks. Due to safety reasons we are unable to stop our vans and turn around in the middle of the Dalton Highway. All of our guides are aware of this and make every effort to find a safe location to pull off at to allow our guests to view the aurora, if they are out. With this comes the possibility that there are other people that have also pulled over to stop to view the lights. Again, we are sorry that you felt that your experience on this tour warranted a 1 star review. We will ensure our guide knows about this review so that we can make sure he addresses these issues. Please feel free to reach out to us during normal business hours if you feel the need to discuss your experience further. We hope you were still able to enjoy the rest of your vacation in our great state of Alaska and we wish you well on your future adventures.

Seeing the Arctic Circle during our trip to Alaska was something that seemed like a good idea, but in hindsight I wish we skipped this trip. The van was so crowded and uncomfortable (think less leg room than coach on an airplane and no where to put anything you brought with you or purchased so it has to be on your lap). The microphone/speaker system didn’t work, so we couldn’t hear anything in the back row. The windows frosted over, so we couldn’t see anything out the window. We were in back row for the majority of the trip and couldn’t hear or see anything….not exactly how I envisioned our 14 hour trip to be. I anticipated it would be a bumpy ride, but wasn’t prepared for how bumpy it really was. The box lunch was a nice touch, but so hard to eat given the lack of space in the van. When we were getting dropped off our guide realized he didn’t have our certificates, so we went all that way and didn’t get a certificate. This is one tour that I wish we had skipped.

Wow.. what an experience! Our tour guide Frank was so cool, informative and got us to the Arctic safely there and back. A 14 drive is alot, but along the way we got to see the beautiful sunset, all the landscapes covered in snow,The Yukon frozen river, The Northern Lights were out but a bit faint do to the cloud coverage and Frank did everything he could to make sure we could catch a glimpse, and we also got a better understanding of the Dalton Highway.A sight you don't get to see everyday. It is a bumpy ride but I'm glad I can check this off of my bucketlist. It truly was an unforgettable moment. Thank you Frank for taking care of us. 3/5/2022 Elizabeth and Bobby
