We went as family with our 10 and 14 year olds. The tour starts with a short video that gives some background of the mill and mining in the area. Our tour guide, Rachel, gave a quick overview of the opening of the tunnel and the mill and the major people involved. You take a short van ride up the mountain and start by getting an overview of some of the buildings. Be on the lookout for big horn sheep! We saw a bunch. We then put on hard hats and went into the tunnel. She showed us the water still being drained from the tunnel and also showed us some of the gold veins that can still be seen! After the tunnel, we moved into the tour of the mill. Rachel did a great job explaining the process in a way that everyone in our group could understand. The building was just amazing. The structure and the mechanical equipment on the inside were huge and very impressive. After the mine tour, there’s a museum with artifacts and interesting mining/mulling equipment. The final part of the tour was a gold panning lesson. We all found specks of gold that we got to take home! The tour took about an hour and a half total. This was great and we will definitely plan to take visitors back.

We all enjoyed the tour very much. Tour guide Cris was friendly and knowledgeable. We all learnt a lot. Panning for gold at the end was the icing on the cake.

Our tour guide, Brooks, did a great job of explaining the story of the Argo Mill and Tunnel, a early 20th century marvel of innovation and technology. Nothing else like it!
