I took one of the original Carytown tours a couple of years ago when they first started and was a bit disappointed at the sample selection and lack of discussion. This new tour was quite the opposite and was terrific! Every one of the stops was great and most of the proprietors gave a short talk. The samples were large and delicious (I’m talking to you Mama J’s, Lift Cafe, Pops market, Stoplight gelato). We even had a billiards demo along with our French Dip at Greenleafs. Our guide Rachel was great too. Overall one of the better food tours we have taken around the country.

We have Rave Reviews For Rachel and the Arts District Food Tour! I know Richmond has an amazing restaurant scene but the discoveries on this food tour opened up a whole new arena for us. We started out at Wong Gonzales where we had a crispy crab taco that was fresh and delicious! River City Tours made arrangements in advance to accommodate people with special foods needs so don't let those restrictions get in the way of this FUN & DELICIOUS experience. Next we went to the Greenleaf's Pool Room which was the most delightful surprise of the tour. The owner, "Carpet Jimmy" gave us an amazing pool demonstration and really brought the place to life for us. It's not your average pool hall, that's for sure. The artwork depicting famous pool players is fabulous - and the food is delightful - we had a delicious chili and toasted Billy Bread. The menu is surprising and full of fresh, savory offerings. We will definitely be back for the food and fun. Our next stop was Pop's Market where the owner's Mom took the time to share her love of the area and their dedication to making fresh, savory food. We had a yummy bowl of sweet potato and veggie hash with homemade bread - delish! Then we were on to JKOGI a hip, modern-rustic spot serving Korean street eats. From there we headed to the Maple and Pine Restaurant at the Quirk Hotel. The decor there is gorgeous. The chef came out to tell us all about the little fresh local pepper dish he prepared for us. Next we headed to our final stop on this fabulous food tour - the Stoplight Gelato Cafe - The Gelato at Stoplight is dreamy deliciousness! The flavors are inspired and yummy! Nothing boring here! The decor is wonderful, and that actual stoplight is very cool. And, the background story is just icing on the gelato! Wonderful!!! We will be back - a Richmond GEM! So, whether you are from Richmond and want to expand your culinary horizons, or you are from out of town and want a fun way to experience part of the food scene in Richmond, I highly recommend that you sign up for this amazing tour!

M., what a thorough, descriptive review! I feel like I was there! Rachel echoed your sentiments - she said Greenleaf's was such a cool experience (it was actually the first time one of *her* tours visited). So glad you'll be back to so many of our partners! - Brian
