This was a unique stop on our visit to Hilo on the Big Island Hawaii because it is not Hawaiin related per se but we are into baking so it intrigued us. We had never heard of Baumkuchen (tree cake) before and were intrigued by the shape and layers of the cake. We initially went on a farm tour on a Friday and were so interested in their process of making this circular cake, we drove back on a baking day the following week to watch them make the cakes from start to finish. The owners, Marie & Markus, have a passion for their business and make very good products. They and their staff are very pleasant and provided alot of history on their product, how they came to Hawaii and the vanilla they are currently growing on their farm. On our next visit to the Big Island, we will schedule a trip back for the Baumstriezel cake making over the open fire.
