Myself and my wife, both Senor Citizens, took the above tour on August 7th 2014. Though the attraction is good, the organization is terrible. There is no Coordination. At Spencer Whistle Stop, we got down the train and went to rest room before getting into the Van which takes us to the Float Boarding place. By the time we came from bath room and moving near to the Van to board, they started the Van. They did not stop in spite of YELLING TO OUR FULL THROAT RUNNING BEHIND. NORMALLY NO PEOPLE WILL BE THERE AND WE DO NOT KNOW HOW LONG WE COULD HAVE STRANDED. Luckily, one Chugach Guide who came on his personal work , took us to the boarding place on his Van, with difficulty , because he also does not know exact Boarding place and there is NO CELL PHONE SIGNAL in that area. When we reported this to the Manager , he did not regret for what he has done. He is not even aware that we are left out. Further, they are not giving truthful information on their website. 1) They have given rain coat only after a lot of insistence though it is raining. 2) They said it is suitable even for2 year kids. In fact, even adults feel difficult to take the tour when it is raining and most of the days it rains. We were in rain and chilly wind for 3 hours continuously and there is no option to drop the tour once you board the Float. THEY SHOULD GIVE OPTION TO DROP RAFTING DURING RAINS. 3) They mentioned Hearty Snacks will be given but THEY DID NOT GIVE EVEN A CUP OF TEA AFTER 3 HOURS DRENCHING IN RAIN.

Great and mellow outing. Starts with a short train ride. I was actually confused about where it started because there was no sign. You meet at the public train station event though it is a private tour but there is only one place that looked like it could be right. The gal inside the station said I was in the right place we were just a bit early and everyone hadn't arrived yet. This is a float trip not river rafting, if you are looking for an active afternoon you will be disappointed. If you want to take in some views, talk with some locals, touch a glacier or eat it and relax you will have a great time as we did. Lovely people own and run this small business. Great for sour small kids ages 5 & 7.

Our tour host, Alaskan Tour Guides, recommended this side trip for my wife, our son and daughter-in-law, and me during our recent visit to Alaska. We met our guide, Justin, at the Portage station of the Alaska Railroad. After a short trip into the back country accessible only by rail, Justin took us to the shore of the lake at the base of the massive Spencer Glacier. We boarded a large air inflated raft and he paddled us around the lake with its very large floating icebergs calved from the glacier....spectacular! We then floated out of the lake and about 5 miles down the Placer River to our exit point. A couple of spots along the river with rapids but nothing serious enough to get wet. Justin beached the raft at our exit point and the train stopped alongside in the middle of nowhere and picked us up for the return trip to the Portage station. He was experienced, very knowledgeable and helpful. The weather was great and the wilderness experience with almost no one in sight was a real memory maker. I strongly recommend this tour as a "must do" for anyone visiting the Kenai Peninsula area of Alaska. Gary W. - Chicago
