To receive your Alcatraz Island Ticket you must check into the Big Bus Visitor Center one day prior to the Alcatraz Tour date, or before 9am on the date of your Alcatraz Tour.

Your tour time will be assigned 5 days in advance of the tour date. Once a time is assigned we are not able to make any changes, please note your timed entry will be allocated by Alcatraz this will not be able to be personally selected
Hop-on Hop-off tour ticket is valid during operating hours for 48 hours after first use.

If you are doing the bug bus tour combo with Alcatraz, make sure you have two days available. The bus tour gets validated and then you have 24 hours to use it. We only had one day in SF and as our Alcatraz tour was midday, we really were not able to use the big bus ticket at all. The bus route is 2.5 hours to do the full circuit. You can hop off at any time to explore but the bus runs in one direction only. So, if you get off at stop 6 to explore, when you hop back on the bus, it will take about 2 hours to get to the end. This is why you really need a full day. Also, you should request the Alcatraz tickets for either first thing in the morning or later in the afternoon. That way, you also maximize your big bus tour ticket. The Alcatraz tour was amazing but was only able to get on the big bus tour once. The stop locations were not clearly marked and as a result, the first bus passed right by me. Also, bus drivers were not that helpful or friendly. In general, I found the big bus staff unhelpful. I figured most of the stuff out myself or through my hotel concierge.

Big Bus Blake and Super Steven made our night tour hilarious, informative and entertaining. We will never forget Blake’s humor and wit. My two teenage grandsons were grinning from start to finish. ( I said teenagers)...... cannot say enough good things about big bus as yet. Two more days to go. Seats on the top are fantastic for photos. It is cold, bring a jacket.

The bus tour was wonderful would recommend getting the 2or 3 day hop on hop off pass. The first day we used this we had an amazing guide that added so much of his personal knowledge of the area. Wish I could remember his name. He was amazing. I think it was Chris and the driver Doug. Kudos to them. The next day we ended up with an audio tour which wasn’t as good or personal but sufficient. Would definitely recommend this.
