Our group of 4 made the most of our short time in San Fran. Mostly it's a great way to see the sights, and knew we wouldn't want to drive and find parkingin SF. And they had quite frequent pick ups too so you could choose reasonably well how long you spent at the stops which were to your own liking. It is however, quite inconsistent with some buses you get on having a guide and some not. Some drivers are very really informative, others obviously wish they were somewhere else! But overall our group would use them again.

Highly, highly recommend the Big Bus Hop-On Hop-Off tour with or without the Alcatraz Combo. It takes you to all the wonderful sites in SF especially if you don't have the time and are lazy to figure out what you want to do. It covers all the areas very extensively and you're able to choose where and how long you want to spend in each area. Alcatraz is of course not to be missed and such a great tour and the audio tour is A MUST! It is done so well and takes you through all the areas with great commentaries and gives you such insights to how it must have been to be a prisoner there. Loved this portion of the tour and should not be missed at all if you are in SF. The only thing I wished (although I personally did not have time for) is that the Big Bus ticket is valid for 2 DAYS instead of just 1 day as an individual CANNOT do all the stops, enjoy, appreciate and savour the necessary time required for each location during one full day especially if the Alcatraz tour is also on the same day. 2 days validity would be perfect!

They struggled with scheduling. We caught the bus, after informing them we were also doing the Alcatraz tour, and were booked to catch the boat at a certain time. Our guide said they could do it with plenty of time, we planned to ride the bus for the 16 stops until the ferry, based on that information, we missed the ferry by a fair margin and had to be on standby for the next ferry, only just managing to get on board. It put a damper on the whole experience. Also the tour guide was very self absorbed, and not that informative of what makes San Francisco unique. It was also VERY cold and windy on top, which limited the enjoyment. We also did the night tour and that was worse @ The guide was BORING, honestly the taped narrative was better, and it was painfully freezing on top, seriously it would cost NOTHING to transfer heat from the engine to a heater unit on the top deck, just to ease the effect of the cold. On other days, with used public transport, and uber nad had a much better experience for less money. Not recommended.
