Alcatraz was great however we missed the bus ride because the girl calculated our wait time wrong and wouldn't let us go on the bus. This was disappointing and a large loss financially. We could not return the next day.

Easy to find the office to collect the tickets, would thoroughly recommend queuing for the evening bus tour as seeing San Francisco from the other side all lite up is quite memorable. The buses run regularly but if you plan on siting upstairs who wouldn't on an open top bus, then wrap up warm as the temperature can change quite dramatically en-route and as you head over towards the Golden Gate the wind generally picks up...
Alcatraz was also a wonderful trip, very interesting, the audio tour is excellent.

A great day out, we watched the original Escape from Alcatraz movie before our trip, which made the tour more interesting.
Sausalito was a very expensive trip for us, we purchased a momento in a wee curios shop which set us back a pretty penny. My husband calls it our magic carpet, it made our money disappear, but it is a talking point.
