What To Expect
1
Greenwell Farms
Our first stop makes the perfect stop at one of our favorite premium Kona coffee farms - Greenwell Farms. Enjoy a parfait and a scone while you sip from one of Greenwell's favorite coffee roasts. "As one of the largest and oldest coffee producers in Kona, Greenwell Farms is proud to celebrate its history and spread the spirit of aloha with every cup."
2
Punalu'u Bake Shop
Sweet, sweet Hawaiian bread! "Welcoming over 200,000 visitors from near and far every year, our bake shop is the most visited bakery in the state of Hawaiʻi. Located on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) in the town of Na‘alehu, midway between Kailua-Kona and Volcanoes National Park, our visitor center is a must-stop! You know you’re close when you smell the sweet aroma of our world-famous sweet bread, malasadas, and baked goods."
3
Punalu'u Black Sand beach
Turtle time! Come see nesting turtles at the most famous black sand beach in the Pacific Ocean. The beach has black sand made of basalt and created by lava flowing into the ocean which explodes as it reaches the ocean and cools. Strong riptides and a dangerous shore break are for brave snorkelers only. We will not be swimming or snorkeling while on tour but we'll be able to spot turtles making their way to the beach or heading back out to sea!
4
Volcano Winery
Enjoy a gourmet picnic lunch at this incredible property in Volcano Village, Hawaii! This is the southernmost winery in the U.S. and produces some really unique fruity wines. In the back of the property, walk in the garden and enjoy the rows of growing tea. In the tasting room, sample wine, tea or hot chocolate. This beautiful property is the perfect place to relax before we head to the volcano!
5
Hawaii Volcanoes National Park
For many, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is the highlight of the tour. Visit the rim of Halemaumau Crater, explore the visitor center and stroll the ancient lava trails with our guides. Kilauea erupted violently in the spring of 2018 causing 80,000 earthquakes through the summer. One hundred days of underground and fissure eruptions, make this the most exciting attraction on Hawaii Island. "Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is on Hawaii Island (the Big Island). At its heart are the Kīlauea and Mauna Loa active volcanoes. The Crater Rim Drive passes steam vents and the Jaggar Museum, which features volcanology exhibits and a viewpoint overlooking Halema'uma'u Crater. Thick ferns mark the entrance to the Thurston Lava Tube (Nāhuku). The Chain of Craters Road weaves over lava. Trails crisscross the park."
6
Rainbow Falls
Rainbow Falls is a waterfall located in Hilo, Hawaii. It is 80 ft tall and almost 100 ft in diameter. The falls are part of the Hawai'i State Parks. There is no fee to see the falls. At Rainbow Falls, the Wailuku River rushes into a large pool below.

We had an awesome time with our tour guide, Grant, and a wonderful group of fellow deluxe circle island tourists! My skeptical 12 year old daughter (What? We are going to spend 12 hours on a tour?) thanked me 30 minutes into pickup from our resort in Waikoloa. Grant was friendly, engaging, and especially patient with the many questions from our 9 year old son. Although closed, we were able to drive through the Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park, near the Kilauea crater, because the highway was still open. This was an unexpected treat! The van was very comfortable (even with 12 travelers total), the food was plentiful and delicious, and the many stops allowed us to take many photos, see many sights, and never get achy from sitting too long. Our tour guide was extremely informative about Hawai'i and possesses a wealth of knowledge about geology; we learned so much about volcanoes and lava eruptions and it's effects on the island's formation. He was also very entertaining and kept us apprised about when and where we would be stopping next, told great stories/anecdotes about the island, and gave suggestions about other sites worth visiting on the big island; there was never a dull moment! Please note that Grant had a cooler stocked with ice cold water bottles so we never got dehydrated! You can see the description of all of the stops in other reviews, but our tour guide was the true gem and the reason I wrote this review. I was impressed when he stopped at a goat farm when driving back from Akaka Falls because one of our fellow guests wanted to pet the baby goats. Finally, he made arrangements to have our forgotten coffee mugs (a gift from the tour to Joe's Kona coffee farm) delivered to our hotel. Thank you so much, Grant, and Kailini tours for a great day that we will not soon forget!

Aloha, Jodi T: I think you summed up your trip very well: Our tour guide was the true gem. Grant's knowledge of the Island of Hawaii, its legends and geography is only a part of what makes him great. It's his LOVE for the Island and people/guests that make his tours a joy to be a part of. In addition to enjoying the transportation on-board our Mercedes Sprinter Mini Coach, we are glad you enjoyed your lunch at the Kilauea Lodge. Again, thank you for your review. We appreciate your feedback! Mahalo, Robin Akau

Our tour guide was great! He altered the tour a bit to show the group more things. Left plenty of time to see things and answered the multitude of questions knowledgeably and with good humor. We were picked up from where we are staying so no need to drive anywhere. Stops at a bakery, a candy factory, a coffee farm, Asaka Falls, lunch at a nice restaurant and lots more. Learned a lot about the plants and trees along the way, as well as a lot of Hawaiian history and culture. Definitely recommend.

Aloha, Sharon B: It appears you had the amazing Grant Mitchell as your tour guide. He is definitely knowledgeable about the island, and the legends and stories he includes on his tour usually stirs up a lot of questions from the guests. I'm glad you enjoyed your time with him! Hawaii Island is rich in culture. I hope you were able to get a taste of the culture at each stop made along the Deluxe Circle Island Experience. At Kailani Tours Hawaii, we believe that we should provide our guests with the best experience possible, and that comes in the form of our amazing guides, comfortable transportation in our customized Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Mini Coach, and the delicious cuisine served on our tour. Mahalo for the 5-star review of our tour! Robin Akau

We won seats on an around-the-island tour during a visit to the Big Island a while back. While we were familiar with the Island, we thoroughly enjoyed this day-long outing. The Bake Shop had many delights, the Black Sand Beach had sea turtles visiting from the ocean. At that time we visited the Volcano National Park for a great introduction to that feature (we've gone back since). Even the commercial stops (coffee plantation, sweet treats factory) were worthwhile. The best part was the information shared by our driver/guide during the drive - very informative and well informed. While we didn't have high expectations for this tour, we were well rewarded by having taken part.

Aloha, George! Thank you for sharing your experience of our around-the-island excursion. Despite Hawaii Volcanoes National Park being closed due to the recent activity at the park, we strive to provide the same service, which includes comfortable transportation, a delicious dining experience, and renowned customer service. The love of the island is apparent in our guides, and we are delighted to hear the best part of your tour was the information shared by our guide during the drive. We are glad he was able to exceed your expectations, and we hope to see you again in the future. A hui hou! Robin Akau
