This was my first time on a zipline and like many first timers I was a bit nervous. From check-in to the actual zipline tour it was a great experience all around. All of the staff were wonderful. Our guides, Austin and Maurice were funny and made my first zipline experience very memorable. If you're visiting the Big Island, be sure to experience this for yourself.

We hesitated to go zippin' because of the cost, but are so glad we sprung for this adventure! What better way to spend a day then zipping through banana fields, deep Hawaiian gorges, and over an epic Hawaiian waterfall? Our guides, Maurice and Jacob were funny, professional and very personable hosts as we zipped down the mountain side, offering interesting vignettes of Hawaiian culture and the local area, as well as freshly harvested Hawaiian treats. They treated us so well! Our group ranged from ages 10 to 67, and we all greatly enjoyed ourselves. Some of the final zips are quite long lines, and a very fun to ride. The last line is really an amazing climax to the afternoon. Save some time to walk through the little town of Honomu when you are done.

Really a fun day! After looking a various zipline companies, we opted to go with one which seemed to attract clientele of all ages, combining sight-seeing and a bit of adventure. The idea of zipping past waterfalls sounded terrific, and since we’re sixty-something first timers, I didn’t want to be regarded as the old fogies in the group, though I think we probably were! Based in a modest building in Honomu just a few blocks off Highway 19, Skyline is staffed by friendly young men and women who seem to enjoy what they’re doing. Jake and Miles were our guides, fitting our gear and explaining what we were to expect along the way. For those who wanted to carry a few personal essentials, there are fanny packs to wear. Long shorts or jeans are probably your best bets for comfort so you don’t have to worry about the harness straps chafing. (I wore denim leggings and even in the heat and humidity was perfectly comfortable.) Once fitted, the group climbs into a minivan and bounces along to the beginning destination, about 15 minutes from headquarters. There we get our first taste of zip lining, flying just a short distance. There are seven lines in all, each progressively longer and higher from the ground. Along the way, we learn ziplining technique interspersed with little bits of local lore, as well as tidbits about local flora and fauna. All of this is done with humor and there’s a lot of laughter along the way. And the big payoff at the end is zipping past beautiful Kolekole Falls for nearly a minute, while you’re whisked along about 250 feet above the river surface. Scenery is pretty spectacular, and getting up close and personal with a waterfall is an experience I’m happy to have had. Honestly, this is a good activity for people of all ages. Some walking will be required and you’ll need to be comfortable climbing stairs (there are quite a few in the final zipline) And though I happen to have a fear of falling, I can’t say it was ever even remotely an issue. I felt secure at all times and these guys pay particular attention to following all safely precautions. Parking is both behind Skyline’s office/store as well as in a lot across the street. Portable toilet facilities are available out back with hand sanitizer. Water is available at several of the lift stations along the way, along with a nibble of sugar cane. Fruit juice is offered at the conclusion of the adventure.
