We went to Colorado this year, for a week, with only two things we knew we wanted to do, Zip Line and Rafting. Be didn't book weeks in advance because we weren't quite sure how many of us there was going to be and there are so many rafting operators in the area, we wanted to take our time and find the right one. We ended up zip lining and rafting with 8 of us and made the reservations, online, the day before we wanted to do it. We all read and filled out the waiver forms before we showed up which made checking in go ALOT faster. We chose Royal Gorge Rafting and Zip Line Tours for multiple reasons but some that stood out were, they had packages that included both zip lining and rafting; the packages included lunch at the White Water Bar & Grill and the packages allowed us to determine what we wanted to do in the morning and what to do in the afternoon. In our case, we decided to zip line in the morning and raft in the afternoon.
Taylor and Topher were our guides for zip lining. I cannot say enough about these two. They were upbeat, fun, funny (mostly lol), personable and made us feel comfortable and safe. Not only were they great guides but in getting to know them, we found that these two are also sincerely good people. We did the classic course which included about a 3/4 mile hike in total, between lines. Each line was better than the last and culminated in a side-by-side race line. The views were beautiful and the clear crisp morning was an excellent backdrop for the morning fun. Both teenagers and adults has a great time!
The package came with lunch at the White Water Bar & Grill, which is on the property. While the menu of items was reduced, it was still full of almost anything you might be in the mood for. The portions were huge (the Huge Baked Potato was actually HUGE! I have never seen a potato that size). I would recommend the BBQ brisket and the baked beans. Delicious food! The service was impeccable! Because everything was so amazing, we ate at the White Water two more times while we were in the area that week. Jasmine and Christina were so friendly and attentive! We had at least 8 people with us when we ate and one time we had 10. That didn't matter, we got seated quickly and the food was served within 15 to 20 mins of ordering. It was fast!
In the afternoon we rafted the Bighorn Canyon part of the river (family friendly). We chose this one because none of us had been rafting before. There were 8 of us, so we all didn't get the same raft and were separated into 5 and 3. Hannah gave us instruction on the bus to the drop-off point and for a 10 minute ride, I felt pretty good about understanding what to do and what not to do if I were to fall overboard or get into trouble. Jesse was the guide in my raft and my wife and children could not remember the name of their guide (they called him "Grateful Dead Helmet Guy"). Both were very knowledgeable and patient with us. My wife and I felt very safe with them and so did the children. The river and experience was amazing and it was in a big part due to our guides. They provided excellent information about the river and the various rapids. All in all it was just a super fantastic time!
Royal Gorge Rafting and Zip Line Tours provided everything we needed in the way of equipment. While the zip line tour provided you opportunities to take some pictures, the rafting did not allow for this as you were actively participating. They provide pictures of your adventures for sale and personally, I think the prices were a bit much for digital pictures. We ended up buying them anyway so we had something besides stories to share with family and friends. This is a service industry so don't forget some cash to tip your guides but if you do, they have an ATM on the property.
I really cannot say enough good things about our experience and the people from RGR that made it as awesome as it was. These are professional and fun people who know how to show you a good time!
