Our guide is a native of Birmingham and you can tell he loves his home town. But that doesn't stop him from telling what really happened in Birmingham during the civil rights struggle. He tells the story candidly and thoroughly and if you listen closely, you can detect a feeling of sadness that the better angels of Birmingham were overrun by fear hatred, and prejudice, especially during this time. The tour is a mixture of walking and being driven to places of interest. At each spot you hear interesting personal stories about what happened sprinkled liberally with facts. I can guarantee you that you will hear about things that you haven't heard before. It lasts about 3 hours and goes by quickly. I love to read books and tour museums but being part of a tour group makes the biggest impact. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone.
