Black Bear & Wildlife Exploration - Ketchikan, AK

Overview
Ketchikan's finest bear viewing accessible by road! Visit Alaska Rainforest Sanctuary for this unique opportunity to see black bears in their native habitat. Your naturalist/guide will bring the rich forest to life as you meander along an improved trail, leading to an elevated boardwalk and platform system amongst magnificent stands of spruce, hemlock and cedar. Watch for bears from the safety of the raised boardwalks which maximize your viewing and provide protection. Leaving the private elevated wildlife viewing system, the rainforest trail transforms to an additional boardwalk perched over grassy wetlands alongside Eagle Creek, home to a rich run of spawning salmon. Here bears, bald eagles, seals and other birds come to fish for Alaska's abundant salmon. Be sure to visit the Alaska Raptor Center, a non-profit organization. Take the opportunity to see raptors up close, along with the historic Herring Bay Lumber Company Sawmill, master Native carver and General Store.

We booked but not part of the cruise ship. This caused a little problem when picking us up. Told the meeting spot and no company rep was there. Called and they sent a van. The tour is easy walking tour and they do a good job explaining Black bear. The tour takes you on a boardwalk that overlooks a river near a salmon hatchery. Since the salmon were running it helps bring the bears out. Saw bear feeding in the river. Then you visit a bird rehab center and end at old saw mill / gift shop and Totem poles.

Brynn was great with the inquisitive little girls on tour. She is an impressive young lady. Hubby said her nature walk was a big highlight for him. Totem poles were great. Gift shop was amazing, both in size and quality. I spent many $ on some great u inquest items. Wish they. Had more small stuffy of the animals we sawā€¦
