Our Driver/Tour Guide was Shawn. On the way to Boone Hall he provided interesting facts about Charleston. Once you get to Boone Hall you are touring yourself but it’s not that hard as your given a list of things to do and with times. So you can do things at your own pace. You are given your pickup time so you can keep track of time to make it back. Highly recommend.

I really loved how knowledgeable the bus tour guide was going to Boone Hall. My issue with the experience in total was how much slavery was “glossed over” by the actual tour guides of the property. The only real discussions of slavery are the prerecordings in the slave cabins. On the tractor tour around the grounds instead of saying slave they would say “skilled laborer” and things to that effect. I had to pull one of the guides aside and ask how many slaves were actually on the plantation at a time. She was very knowledgeable about it but it struck me as odd that that’s not something they really talked about considering that all of the structures on the grounds were literally built off the backs of said “skilled laborers”. And lastly, even though the current owners may not have owned slaves - I did ask where were the men women and children buried.. considering there were hundreds of them - to which the guide replied “well we have knowledge of where they are buried but it was William McRae (who died in 2020) who made the decision to not mark the graves”.
