The tour of the plantation for the most part is self guided. I was given a map of the plantation at the entrance and pretty much navigated on my own. There is a guided tractor tour that takes you around the plantation, then there is the house tour that is also guided. There was also the Gullah presentation. This was very interesting. The lady doing the presentation was a descendant of the Gullah people. She explained about the Gullah people's way of life and sang songs the Gullah people would have sung, This was a very interesting and enjoyable presentation. I would highly recommend a tour of Boone Hall if visiting the Charleston area. It's worth the trip.

The property is pretty, but the house was built in the 1930’s and is not even a reproduction. House tour is lacking if you are a history buff and not much history. I would skip this place.

Thank you for taking the tour to Boone Hall Plantation. Your comment about not much history may be somewhat true of the house, but the gardens, grounds and historic slave cabins more than make up for that. The entrance alone is worth admission to Boone Hall. The magnificent Live Oak Trees were planted evenly spaced on both sides of the entryway in 1743. They now canopy over the drive and make for one of the most photographed places in Charleston. The Gullah Theater, Black HIstory in America and Slave History Presentation are also very well done there.

If staying in Mount Pleasant, use your own car. Not worth cost of van driver, who only gave us her family info, not much about the areas we drove through. House tour, 40+ adults & children, didn't have enough time to really look at everything in the 4 rooms we went in. More people & 1 less room than tour details specified. Slave cabins history info & Gullah history were the most worthwhile part of tour. Butterfly cafe closed before time stated on sign. Overall, excess cost was not justified.
