The tour guide Jorge (George) led an informative and interesting tour of Harlem, the Bronx, Queens, and Brooklyn.
Our tour included the Coney Island stop and took about 7 hours. If you decide not to include the Coney Island stop, you'll need to leave the tour in Brooklyn and you'll be left off near a subway/train station.
Starting at Grand Central, we went west past Times Square then headed north along Manhatten's west coast to reach Harlem. The tour did not stop there but famous places were shown and described as the bus drove past them.
Our visit to the Bronx started with a quick stop at the Yankees baseball field for some photos. Next was a stop for some local wall murals and some coffee. Just walking around gave us a feeling for what living in the Bronx is like.
Next we went to Queens to see a completely different neighborhood: a super affluent area where there was nobody around and very well looked after gardens. Such a contrast to the last stop. The guide told us about the area and its history which gave context to what we were seeing.
Onwards to Flushing Meadows for a quick stop at the old World Fair site (not bad). Driving by the US Open tennis center was interesting for us tennis fans (it was closed though).
Then a fairly long drive to Brooklyn, made even longer by the heavy traffic (it's New York after all). LaGuadia is a work zone so traffic there was really heavy. However, during this drive, the tour guide gave us lots of info and stories about the places we were going through.
Eventually, we reached Coney Island where we stayed for about 40 minutes for lunch and sightseeing.
Following this, we stopped at the foot of the Brooklyn bridge for iconic views of the bridge and lower Manhattan. Well worth it.
The tour then returned to Manhattan where we stopped in Chinatown to let some tour members off. The tour then returned to Grand Central.
Highlights for us include just seeing the sights of the boroughs and things like crossing so many iconic bridges. Yes it looks like it does in the movies and TV shows but actually travelling through these areas is another experience altogether. If you have any interest in New York City (not just Manhattan) then this tour is well worth spending a day on.
