We booked a round trip shore excursion transfer with Royal Caribbean to the Quincy Market area. It was a rainy, cold day; while we had some attractions in mind, walking was not in the cards. Voila! The ship shuttle dropped us off near the Long Wharf Marriott and the silver City View Trolley (hop on hop off) kiosk was right there. We were offered a cruise ship ‘special’ of a $23 tour; the normal price is $42. We paid by credit card (no AMEX), were given a clear map and we were on our way. The deal maker for me was the 10 minute max waiting time between the 9 trolley stops. I’d heard if up to 30 minute waits with other companies. We were especially interested in visiting the Boston Public Library (for its incredible architecture) and seeing the Boston Marathon finish line. We were delighted to learn that the marathon finishes at the library. We saw many sites we couldn’t have done on our own in inclement weather: Faneuil Hall; Old North Church; USS Constitution; Old State House; Boston Common; Beacon Hill; Back Bay area; Boston Tea Party Ship. We were entertained by Eddie for the first part of our ride. He is a local and very knowledgeable and entertaining. He offered wonderful narration and gave directions to passengers looking for a specific site. Additional reasons to choose CityView Trolley Tour: locally owned and operated; open-air trolleys for better viewing/heated; padded seats; no diesel fumes; clean burning /CNG trolleys; most frequent service; free reboarding. After the 9-stop loop, we were dropped off near the Marriott and reboarded our shuttle back to the ship. CityView silver Trolley helped us make the best of Boston in bad weather. Please make sure to tip your driver! They have a challenging job: driving in heavy traffic; continual narration; giving directions.

This was a great tour. The drivers we had were very funny and very informative. They told great stories of the city and shared a lot of the history of the city. We were only in town for the day, I wish we could have done more hopping off and on but oh well. We did get off at the USS Constitution and walk around there for a little while.

It was raining outside. A trolley tour wasn’t in the cards, but with the rain, we thought it was a good idea. Uncle Steve did an excellent job talking about the history around Boston and we enjoyed his sense of humor and playful interaction with the guests. It was the end of the day and he was going to take his trolley back to the garage. We asked him where the nearest Red Line stop was. He said that he could drop us off since it was on his way. We appreciated that because it was raining. He made restaurant recommendations to several guests when they asked him for suggestions, and the guests appreciated it. We had a great time, and hope to see him again when the weather is good.
