Avery Horton was great. Our food tour was smal (four of us) so my brother and I had more time to talk, ask questions, and find out more about the other couple. I did the tour in Paris and found this one equally as engaging. Avery knew a lot of the history of Boston and we did part of the historic North Church/Paul Revere tour. The Union Oyster House was great. We started with the clam chowder and it was great. The next stop was great with small lobster rolls (had to pace ourselves) which were all lobster and no filler. We bought the same xtra alcohol package but honestly, we couldn’t drink that much and I would probably save the money and do without. We walked to the Public Commons and the new building for the indoor merchants. Lots to see here and did the secret food here (artisan roasted nuts) and another pint of beer… good but again, couldn’t drink it fast enough. Avery brought us Boston baked beans (small cup for a taste) and dessert. Very good. We ended up with cannoli’s at a famous bakery that does the fresh cream for each cannoli which I have to admit, it does make a difference! All in all, we had a great time. We even got to take the John F Kennedy booth at one of the old restaurants. I highly recommend Secret Food Tours of Boston… and the drink package only if you are mighty thirsty and can drink fast. Avery has a highly recommend from me although I think we were his last tour group before he sets sail on his next career.

We did the north end food tour with Jayden. It was so much fun and very informative. Jayden was a great tour guide, she was helpful with suggestions and knew a lot about the city. We had 6 stops and learned a lot about the city. Had a blast for our first time there!

Guide was new and it showed. No fault of his, so I’m not going to put his name. Based on previous food tours across the country, more “information” was expected from guide while at each stop and while walking to each stop. Lacked “insider stories & tips” and “first hand introduction to the area”. The tour description said group capped at 12 and a duration of 3.5 hours. Before we started, the guide said “We have a larger group today of 13 people and an 2:30-2:45 hours for a tour duration. “ Normally, the tour length wouldn’t be a focus, but with a cost of $115 per person, it was a focus of ours. Started 20 mins late because two people arrived 5 mins late and our guide let them go get coffee while the rest of our group stood there waiting. The clam chowder and lobster roll were absolutely delicious. Going into the basement of Modern Pastry for a cannoli was super neat. Lots of walking on uneven cobblestones (in case someone from a future group reads this review and it is a potential consideration).
