What To Expect
1
Mount Rushmore National Memorial
The bus departs at 9am and heads for Mount Rushmore! You will have a little over an hour to look around at your own convenience and enjoy the sites and beauty that you came to South Dakota for. We stop here first because Mount Rushmore is at it's best in the morning sun. Gutzon Borglum carved this mountain facing east towards the morning sun and intended it to be viewed this way.
2
Iron Mountain Road
After leaving Mount Rushmore we will travel along the Iron Mountain Road. A beautiful 17 mile road of breath taking scenery featuring 3 one lane tunnels that perfectly frame Mount Rushmore.
3
Custer State Park Resort
We stop for lunch inside Custer State Park at the Game Lodge and previous summer White House for president Calvin Coolidge. Try the Buffalo Stew, it's the best you will ever find!
4
Needles Highway
After lunch we depart for the Needles Hwy. This 14 mile scenic drive is sure to leave you breathless and awe struck at amazing beauty of the Black Hills. Sit back and enjoy the ride and watch the crowd gather around when we drive the bus through the Needles Eye Tunnel. With only inches to spare on each side of the bus you can relish in the fact that you are not the one driving.
5
Sylvan Lake
Take a rest stop and coffee break at the beautiful Sylvan Lake. This is among the crown jewels of Custer State Park and the beauty within it.
6
Crazy Horse Memorial
We spend about an hour at Crazy Horse Memorial. You are on your own to spend this time enjoying this piece of history in the making. Upon completion it will be the largest mountain carving in the world! Truly a piece of awe inspiring history being worked on every day.

Excellent tour. Get to see the main sites, plus go through small tunnels with a big bus, much to the amazement of all. Jerry, our guide and driver, was great.

The tour is an all day adventure through the black hills. My guide and driver was Rory. He is very friendly and knowledgeable. The day starts at Ft. Hays. They offer a breakfast for a very low price if interested. There are several buildings from the set of Dances with Wolves you can go through. You can take food and drink on the bus and if you don't want to purchase things at the stops you should. It is a long day. Many points of interest and dad jokes are told along the way. The first stop is Mt. Rushmore. We had about an hour there. I believe that everyone had enough time to do what they wanted but you do need to keep track to stay on schedule. Next is iron mountain road. It is a hilly, twisty scenic romp into Custer state park. At the park, you have about an hour for lunch around noon. You do not have to eat if you do not want. After lunch you get on the needle highway for more twists, turns and scenic beauty in Custer. If you are lucky you might see some wildlife. We saw Buffalo and big horned sheep. Rory stopped the bus to offer pictures of the Buffalo. There is a brief stop at Sylvain lake. There is a little store and a location from National Treasure. After that, you head to Crazy Horse Memorial. We had about an hour there. Again there are many things to do there but felt like we had plenty of time. Return to Ft. Hays where there is a dinner show that you can add.
