When I found myself having to change plans due to a road closure, I pivoted Hunter’s night photography tours. He is quite knowledgeable about the area and I picked up some great tips from him. He it me in position to get some great night sky shots. I would highly recommend this tour.

My wife and I recently visited National parks in Southern Utah ending at Capitol Reef. While I am an avid amateur photographer with 20+ years of active international photography under the belt, I've never shot the night sky. Despite less than ideal sky conditions during our visit (waning full moon), I did not want to miss the opportunity to learn and make some pictures of the night sky while on our trip. I'm thankful I made the decision. Our tour with Hunter could not have been better. After picking us up from our hotel we drove to his first scouted location. After setting up my camera and tripod, Hunter shared his feedback on ideal camera settings, focusing methods and compositional considerations. With that, I began making test pictures. Hunter and I reviewed shots and made additional tweaks. Hunter suggested various compositions based on both foreground elements and surrounding peaks. We then drove to another location Hunter had scouted with many compositional choices. I shot there until the light from the moon became overpowering. Hunter's support continued here. We had less technical discussion and more discussion/review of composition. I really appreciated his approach. He continued to offer feedback and suggestions but also gave me the space to fiddle on my own. Apart from the photo experience, we truly enjoyed the time with Hunter. He's clearly very passionate about the outdoors and photography. It comes through on his tour. He was an excellent guide and we enjoyed the conversations. This excursion was our last activity on our trip. After multiple sunrises and sunsets sandwiched around a ton of other shooting in the various parks we visited, this tour was absolutely the highlight of my photography experience on this trip. Whether you are a new nighttime photographer seeking to learn techniques or you are experienced and are seeking ideal shooting locations in the Capitol Reef area, Hunter's tour is for you. Knowing his approach and his friendly style, I imagine each of the tours he does is excellent. The only thing I would have changed... a darker sky with more dark time. Plan your trip accordingly. I believe this is one variable outside of Hunter's control!

Hunter knows spots in Capital Reef we would never have visited without him as our guide. He knows about lighting and composition and makes it easy to frame shots. Great sense of humor and attention to detail. I recommend this to anyone wanting to take better photos —- Even if all you have is an iPhone. My husband has a nice Nikon camera that Hunter helped him with settings and features but he also showed me features on my iPhone that I’d never used before. Here are some of my iPhone photos.
