My wife and I have snorkeled in a lot of places, but Kealakekua Bay is among the best anywhere. There are Moorish Idols, pink-tailed triggerfish, parrotfish, big schools of yellow tangs... well, you get the idea. We had gone with Sea Quest several years ago, and were happy to go with them again. It's probably worth mentioning that there can be chop in the open sea on the ride down to the bay, so it can be a little bumpy getting there. The bay itself is protected by a reef, though, so conditions near the Captain Cook Monument are ideal. On our most recent trip, with Captain Kendra and Kelly, there were only a couple of other boats in Kealakekua Bay, so it wasn't crowded with snorkelers. We had lots of room to float and dive and just enjoy the incredible beauty that is above and below the surface. It was a highlight of our trip.

We had a wonderful time on our Captain Cook snorkel tour. This is the second time that we have used Seaquest for a snorkeling adventure on the Island of Hawaii. Captain Hope and her assistant Carley greeted us, transported us to the bay where the monument to Captain Cook is located, outfitted everyone with fins, mask, and snorkel--those needing a snorkel vest or 'noodle' were provided with same. Snorkling in this bay is fantastic--lots of fish. (On a previous trip we were joined by dolphins in the bay.) Captain Hope told us about the site including the story of Captain Cook's death and Kealakekua Bay, a marine protected environment. Following a snack and beverages, the Captain pointed out sea caves and lava tubes which entered the ocean as we returned to the Seaquest dock. All and all a special trip by a thoroughly competent and professional crew.

We were lucky enough to get a last-minute booking with Sea Quest and I am so glad we did. It was the highlight of our vacation. Our crew was Kevin and Kai and we were in very good hands. They were careful, knowledgeable and engaging. I thought the boat and snorkel gear were very good. I haven't done much snorkeling before and I was a little nervous about it but I felt very safe. It was so much fun! I would definitely do this again.
