Although I haven't lived in Carlsbad for awhile now, I still visit several times a year and consider it my hometown. So I was amazed when my sister invited my Mom and I out for a Carlsbad Food Tour. What could there possibly be that I didn't already know? Turns out, quite a bit! Cheri took us out for a lovely few hours of exploring some old favorites, catching us up on the newest hangouts, and enlightening us about some historical details that I had never heard. We got to taste some pretty amazing samples that included the eggplant sliders at Grigorio's, sandwiches and incredible olives at Vigilucci's market and that famous garlic bread and giant meatball at Caldo Pomodoro (always a favorite!). Special new finds that I'll definitely be back to visit included Vigilucci's Market and the Witch Creek Winery and Tasting Room. This tour is a lovely way to gain a new appreciation for the lovely village that is Carlsbad, whether you're a visitor or a native (go hungry!).

OVER-THE-TOP Incredible!!! We try to do a Foodie Tour in every city we visit, when we first get there, so we know where to eat during our stay. This tour, by far, had TOO MANY awesome choices!!! There wasn't a place we wouldn't go to...if we had more time! Make sure you COME HUNGRY because even though the portions are small, there are a LOT of them, and you will leave FULL! We were greatful that there was a short walk between restaurants to give our stomachs a rest! Our first stop was to Caldo Pomadoro for some delicious cheesy Garlic Bread with marinara and cheesy Artichokes! Note the "cheesy..." they were BOTH incredible!!! The next stop was Humble Olive Oils for tastings of gourmet olive oils and vinegars. This has to be the BEST place for getting a great product. They also carry pastas and sauces. We didn't leave there without buying their Peach and Apricot Balsamic Oils, the White Truffle Oil, & the Avocado Blossom Honey! So Yum!!! The next stop was to Vigilucci's Gourmet Market. An authentic Italian Market in the heart of Carlsbad! We enjoyed a selection of cheeses, meats, olives & Italian cookies. You can buy complete meals-to-go OR the ingredients to make it at home! We were then on to Witch Creek Winery for some sampling of some award winning California wines. Next, we had a little history lesson about Carlsbad's name and how the city was known for having the Best WATER! Sub Zero Ice Cream was an amazing stop!!! They blast the ice cream with -321 degrees of liquid nitrogen to freeze it instantly and to-order. We're coming back here!!! Gregorio's was our next stop where we had some delicious Eggplant Sliders! Loved them! Next Stop was Señor Grubby's for some incredible pork tacos! They have a great menu that has good choices for ever eater! Our last stop was to the Carlsbad Chocolate Bar to sample some Sea Salt Dark Chocolates! Mmmm... A perfect way to finish our foodie adventure! Cheri, our host, did an incredible job of selecting restaurants and sharing her passion for both food and the city of Carlsbad. The tour would not be the same without her!

This tour was so deliciously good. Cherimarie imparted so much fun knowledge of Carlsbad & pointed out stuff my husband & I would have just walked by. The variety of foods sampled left us full but also gave us places to go back to. I suggest you take the tour on arrival so you do have the chance to return.
