I’ve been on food tours in Paris and Florence, Italy, but have never been on a food tour in my own backyard. It’s worth it! Learning about all the different specialty eateries in Carlsbad was worth the price alone. I also loved that guide and owner, Cherimarie Poulos, shared her knowledge of Carlsbad’s history, from the early settlers to modern day restaurateurs. There wasn’t a single spot on the nine-stop tour that wasn’t fantastic. As a Carlsbad resident, I always go to the same few restaurants, and thanks to Cheri, I’ve got nine new spots to check out. Whether you’re interested in artisanal chocolates, locally sourced wines, old school Italian joints, or hipster cafés, there’s a stop on this tour for you. Wear your walking shoes and bring your camera - this three-hour tour involves light walking and lots of great photo opportunities.

We took this tour the last week of October 2015 and totally enjoyed the variety of tastings, the historical stories and Cheri's friendly way of leading our small group. There were many delicious offerings from Italian to Mexican, from sweet to savory. There was enough walking that good shoes are recommended but there were also numerous opportunities to rest at the different venues. They ranged from main street restaurants to neighborhood family restaurants that we never would have discovered without this tour. A thoroughly enjoyable experience and we highly recommend it! Went on this tour with my Mom during a recent holiday to the Carlsbad area. Really enjoyed. Amazing food, large portions, do not eat lunch prior!! Cherie was a great guide and all the stops served delicious food, with much larger portions than anticipated. Only a couple of suggestions.... Our group was quite large (15 in total) and would have been better with a smaller group (maybe 8 people). Also, would be nice if the stops had wine pairings, either included in the price or for an additional fee for those who wanted to indulge:) Overall, a great experience. Will look for more of these on our travels.....
