Central Ballard Brewery Tour

Overview
TOUR INCLUDES URBAN FAMILY BREWING, STOUP BREWING, AND OBEC BREWING.

In the center of Ballard's Brewing District, these three breweries stand out. At each guided tasting we will learn about the different beer styles, what to look for when you are tasting beer, the history of beer, and the craft brewing renaissance in the Pacific Northwest. For example, we'll learn how an obscure export ale for British soldiers was reborn in the Pacific Northwest to become the most popular craft beer style in North America or how a small Czech town gave its name to one of the world's most popular beer styles.

At each brewery our Cicerone certified Beer Guide will lead a guided tasting of four, 4-once beers, for a total of 12 different beers. This is about 3 pints of beer.
* 3/4 of a mile, 1,500 steps
* Each guide a certified cicerone
* 12 different 4 oz beers
* Free 4-oz souvenir tasting glass
* Free souvenir Bottle Key-Chain opener

What To Expect
1
Urban Family Brewing Company
Our tour begins at Urban Family Brewing. Just settling into their brand new brewhouse, Urban Family has been a feature of the North Seattle Brewing scene for years. Originally inspired by the Belgian and French Farmhouse brewing traditions they now feature huge selection of in-house brewed sour ales and IPAs making this one of the more unique breweries in the neighborhood. Old world traditions and innovative northwest styles served side by side.
2
Stoup Brewing
Stoup has that crazy, mixed-up Seattle, hipster, family vibe. The beer garden features a fire pit for those cool evenings and there is always something new and exciting on tap. Besides traditional styles and IPAs, you may find experimental beers and old world beers you typically find only in Europe
3
Obec Brewing
Our final stop is Ballard's newest micro-brewery. Obec is a Czech word (pronounced "O-Betz") meaning "community" and their ideal is to build community around beer. You will feel right at home with their traditional styles and cozy taproom. It is all about building community around Obec, and making the world a better place through beer. We will also get a look at the brewing process.

What a great introduction to the microbrewery culture of the Pacific Northwest! Tim, who runs this tour, is very passionate and extremely knowledgeable about beer. He even created a beer guide, including an explanation of beer terminology, tasting sheets, and a pairing guide for participants. Most of all tho, the tour was a lot of fun. The breweries all seemed very popular with locals and we had a total of 3 flights with 4 small beers on each of them. Needles to say, I couldn't finish all of them - but I definitely had fun trying. As someone who isn't a beer expert at all, I really feel I learned a lot about the different brewing methods and my own taste on this tour. Tim is a wonderful guide (our small group had a little meetup hiccup in the beginning which he managed smoothly) and I fully recommend taking this tour to learn more about Seattle's beer culture.
